I may be writing this without a sound mind but I want to talk about how the phrase “So That No One Would Cry” enters my brain every time I’m feeling suicidal. Which is why I’m making the case that the abnormality with the same name represents suicidal ideation in the form of self sacrifice. It isn’t a novel idea though is it? After all, we met it during Canto IV: The Unchanging, exploring the mind of the suicidally depressed Yi Sang.

In my experience, I first fought this abnormality through its extracted ego, Red Sheet, equipped by Marile from the Technology Liberation Alliance. He was easy, yet ridiculously hard to kill due to his inflated HP pool at the time (374 compared to his mobs of 148). I thought he was going to be easily taken care of until I saw how he survived several waves where I took out his mobs with one shot. That’s when I realised he was supposed to be a big deal, not just a chump.

Handsome lad though isn’t he? He visually resembles Meursault, yet the mirror world ID given to him fell upon young Sinclair instead.

Reading through voice lines for Lobotomy E.G.O::Red Sheet Sinclair, I’m able to parse the meaning of these talismans. They’re a curse, that’s already attached to the abnormality. When you’re hit, these talismans will transfer to you from the abnormality. It also gives you a damage buff before you reach 9+ stacks. So ideally, you want to hear it out and let it hit you a bit before transferring all its talismans back to the abnormality, making it this fight light work.

And for his uptie story, it indicates that he resonates with this abnormality to the point where he obsessively creates more talismans than what’s necessary for combat. Creating curses from one’s misery, it feels reminiscent of writing a suicide note, or several in this case. It’s said then when the talismans are attached to you, you will become sluggish like a depressed person. Then you can think nothing but negative thoughts, directed at anything and anyone.

Carmen’s line here indicates you are using the wooden doll’s traumas first fuel this EGO. Then it uses you to fan the flames of hatred. I forgot to mention the abnormality is T-04-11-20, a trauma based abnormality.

“Then it may only be natural that using someone else's mind like a tool gradually assimilates yours into it.”

And these are lines from Heathcliff’s observation logs.

“...Well, I'm not about to sit down and let it hit me.”

Firstly, he rejects resonating with the doll’s curses by not sitting down and letting it hit him. It’s a curse of inaction, to wallow in your misery. Our Heathcliff’s not about that life. Then he says this.

“Anyway, this thing bugs me more the more I hit it. Some kinds of stress you gotta relieve by beating things, but this doesn't help.”

It sounds like hitting the suicidal thing only makes you more uncomfortable. But he successfully suppresses the wooden doll by returning the curses to it when it guards.

“Heh, that's when I got it. It couldn't do anything as we kept putting the papers on it, so we turned it into regular firewood.”

A humanoid doll made out of chopped up wooden blocks that lashes out when it’s hit. Then guards its body when it’s assaulted and confronted with its own curses. The idea of cursing humans with a humanoid doll is often seen in Asian folklore. But it has shown to do nothing but harm itself, so maybe, this abnormality is the trauma of being the medium to cause pain upon another.

So what does So That No One Would Cry means? It means to take these talismans that make you stronger, and use it to beat me up, so that no one would cry.

Can you see how its talismans cover up its old wounds where blood would leak out again once you destroy its body parts? It’s a flimsy bandaid, only there to stop the bleeding from flowing out, not to close the wounds and stop bleeding. It’s also a creepy detail but it has a talisman wrapped around the block between its legs. What is rendered bloody in the next picture. Its face and hands are the most densely saturated area full of talismans. Blood seeps out of them. The hands being balls indicate it’s always balling up its fists.

Don Quixote’s awakening EGO voice lines indicates that there are wishes beyond curses that it can give. Maybe these things used to be different, until the doll was used to bring misfortunes instead. What is a doll to disobey somebody’s wishes?

“Heheh! Thou art quite full of wishes… Which of them dost thou desire to see come true?!”

“Hooh… hopes, desires, all of these afflictions shall be broken…! And I shall liberate thee from their yoke!”

Referring to hopes and desires as afflictions is interesting don’t you think? Almost like someone's hopes and desires could be a curse to another person, so the only choice is to take it all within oneself So That No One Would Cry. It ties well with Don Quixote’s Canto, and that’s why this wooden doll shows up in Canto IV and Canto VIII.
