The last post of this set. Thanks for bearing with us on this post. I had taken a quarter of my total trip photos from this one day and it was so difficult to summarise. To be able to show the incredible beauty in the most unorthodox things. In things like being alone in the fog, rain and dark with the person you love, taking on the world together.
This is the halfway checkpoint, the path splits into two and we took one on the way up and another on the way down. Whats left is this stunning view of the city of Kyoto, which makes you realise how long you had been climbing. By the end of this we were soaked from head to toe. My trainers have never been quite the same too. But it was worth it. The feeling of content I felt from spontaneously doing this. When I had arrived that day we had felt so crest fallen by the sheer number of people. That we would never get to enjoy this dream just by ourselves. But in the end we did.
What I thought would just be a stretch of gates ended up being a 3 hours climb and back. Time added of course from truly appreciating the moment. Taking detours. Getting lost. Appreciating the torii that stood so well kept like they were made yesterday and others that had peoples messages written in the dust. It was really breath taking and I doubt upon revisiting it will ever be the same for me again. This was our experience and this was our moment on the mountain, through 10,000 red torii 鳥居 gates in the Fushimi Inari Taisha 伏見稲荷大社, Kyoto.
