"how big or small is their family? who did they live with growing up? do they live with anyone now?" For rechor!
Rechor has one younger brother (Junior) but other than that I don't have ideas of cousins or aunts or uncles. His mother Levicia is a feathered amphithere from Mexico who immigrated to France to study there as a young adult so Rechor isn't super familiar with her family other than letters and gifts he got send sometimes. Absolon, Rechor's dad, is a French basilisk and kinda went no contact with his family after leaving them to set up his own criminal empire. He probably has some brothers though who knows. (Basilisks are always male, their genetics are weird im still figuring that out)
Anyway Rechor grew up with his mom and dad who loved him very much. His dad especially was very proud and fond of him and taught Rechor everything about being a basilisk, controlling his shapeshifting magic and paralysing glare and such and when his wife wasn't around he would teach him knife tricks (Levicia had no clue her husband was a criminal). His parents were also deeply in love with eachother so life was good. That was until Rechor was about 8 years old and his lil brother Absolon Junior was born. Junior was very small and weak but his mother adored him. His father however was not very thrilled about a runt carrying his name. But he loved his wife so he just acted as if he also was happy while quietly resenting the small hatchling. After that things got more strained. Absolon ignored junior for the most part, spending more time with Rechor instead. Sometimes he would watch junior and reluctantly interact with him because Levicia made him do so but the resentment grew as junior stayed small and weak and on top of that was very soft and gentle and peaceful. Not good basilisk traits in Absolon's eyes. Rechor picked up on the resentment his dad had for his lil brother and as he idolised his dad, he started picking on junior. Being mean to him, scuffing him up, taking his things etc. Levicia was very much not happy about this development and scolded Rechor for it. Absolon would pretend to take Rechor on walks to have a talk about it but instead introduced his son to the criminal underworld and the catacombs they could use to get around the city unseen. He would teach him how to intimidate people, spar with him to enhance his knife and tailblade skills, teach him where he would need to slice and stab people to have them bleed out the fastest. Taught him how to get around swiftly and stealthily, climb buildings, advanced flying and free running techniques which Rechor absolutely adored. Absolon told Rechor to try and keep his bullying of junior on the downlow so his mom wouldn't be upset with him. He assured him he would take care of disposing of Junior so their reputation wouldn't be dragged down by a weak runt and they could become a loving family again.
When Rechor was around 15, Absolon put his plan in action. He was planning on making it look like an accident, and had asked Rechor to distract Levicia. However Levicia had insisted on going to check up on junior and walked in right when Absolon was about to kill junior. She screamed and threw herself between Absolon and Junior, horribly upset and angry, screaming at Absolon on how he could do that. Absolon considered his options, but he truly loved his wife and didn't want to hurt her. He turned to Rechor, told him to take care of his mom for him, told levicia he loved her and then fled the scene never to be seen again. Rechor tried to follow him but Absolon had disappeared without a trace and his mom was very upset..and his dad did ask to look after her so.. reluctantly he went back to her. After Absolon's disappearance, they would receive mysterious packages without a return adres containing money and gifts addressed to levicia and Rechor. It was clear they were from Absolon but he never left any clues on where he could be. Levicia felt extremely conflicted about accepting these. She still could not believe the man she used to adore had tried to kill her youngest son. She hated him for that..but she was now a single mom with two kids to raise so reluctantly she accepted the money while discarding his gifts for her. Rechor was allowed to keep the gifts he was sent though if it was a toy he was asked to share it with junior. Rechor resented his little brother and had complicated feelings towards his mom for being the reasons his dad left. He kept mostly to himself, awkwardly tried to be there for his mom and help her around the house because his dad had asked him to and even very reluctantly babysat junior when his mom had to go to work as she didn't want to have to rely on her ex husband's gifts.
However when Rechor turned 18 he had enough, gathered his things and then ran away in the night. He wanted to go out there and make his father proud by becoming a master criminal and maybe find him too. He still send his mom a part of his earnings and sometimes letters so she would know he was okay but otherwise he cut contact with her and junior. He never did end up finding his dad but he did grow up into a formidable hitman who after he turned 20 had never failed a job
Then at 35 he tried to perform a hit on Thorn when he was visiting Paris and now he lives in Auro City on Isla Dracon. He still sends his mom money and sometimes letters but still his contact with her is limited. Rechor, like nearly all of Thorn's other criminal family members, lives in Thorn's base of operations above the casino in his own room. Sadly for Rechor, this family includes Edward so whenever in communal areas he will have to deal with him. Oh and he does have his familiar Chaussete living with him in his room! He loves him very much and spoils him rotten
