I don’t know what it is about choking while rebreathing, but it makes my body kind of just give up on trying to breathe! It feels kind of incredible tbh 😅💕 Choking starts around 2:45
wired for experiments
Another fun way to mess with your heart's rhythm would be forced rebreathing, forcing your lungs into overdrive and straining your quivering heart 🫀
Oh absolutely, I love the idea 😩 I’ve never done rebreathing (I don’t yet know how to do it safely by myself) but I’ve always found my mind drifting to it. When I have attempted to do it, I always love when I start to feel lightheaded and relaxed, and then my body starts to panic. My heart goes insane, unsure of what to do. I usually stop when it starts skipping and I can feel my body slowly getting heavier and heavier. But it’s such an amazing feeling, I can’t imagine what would happen if I were to go even further… would my heart be able to keep up or would it be so irregular and unpredictable that you can’t even measure its BPM?

Anoles Revisited
Longtime readers may recall seeing this little bubble-crowned anole previously. This species dives underwater to escape predators and will breathe and rebreathe a bubble of air for as much as 18 minutes before resurfacing. (Image and research credit: C. Boccia et al.) Read the full article
