south american horned frogs have adopted a really weird niche for an amphibian- some of them have evolved to be ambush predators in semiarid environments!

their tough skin prevents moisture loss during dry spells, while their short powerful legs allow them to scramble forward out of dark crevices fast enough to get the drop on most any smaller snackable creatures that happen by- and there are a lot of those, because the south american horned frog will eat anything that fits in that big ol' mouth.
