in the coming days the new ehrc guidance will become law in the UK. No one has seen the final guidance, but it's expected to be equivalent to the draft guidance and it's expected to advise businesses, higher education facilities, public buildings, and charities to ban trans people from all single sex spaces.
The guidance will likely still be vague about the obvious problems this will cause, and is expected to advise all trans people be segregated to a 'third space'. Many businesses will follow these guidelines, but also I hope some won't.
The fight isn't over, there still time to email and meet MP, demand that this guidance is debated and voted on, now isn't the time to give up.
But in the likely event that this passes without democratic oversight, and in the next couple of months we see more and more places begin to openly discriminate against us, I need all my cis friends really have our backs on this.
Please, don't support businesses that aggressively employ these guidelines, and please support with everything you have the ones resisting and defying them. I know I won't have a choice.
