this is gonna be a bit of a ramble/rant, but I need to get this out somewhere
context: Our show for indoor guard is based on a board game. Thereās a set of card props, pretty much just big pieces of foam board, and thereās nine of us with these cards. Everyone else is on flag/sabre/rifle. HOWEVER, us cards never touch the equipment until the flag feature (which got changed so now weāre only there for eight counts and disappear again). The work, which I already mentioned that got changed, pissed a lot of us off.
actual incident: Everyone was, rightfully, sorta mad about how we did literally nothing for roughly thirty ish seconds out of four minutes.
During practice, EVERY SINGLE CARD is bitching about it. Except for me. I legit just wanted to go home and never have to deal with literally everthing falling apart while Iām trying to be the āpOsItiVe OnEā but I was so drained and still am a bit and everyone is still being a bitch about everything and ISTG IF THEY DONāT GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER IāM SLAPPING SOMEONE- WHAAAAAAT WHO SAID THAT?? The worst part isā¦

Rant on why the Narrator is a selfish self-centered asshole (I love him though he is awesome)
**TW FOR SUICIDE MENTIONS AND SUCH (Zending)**
AHEM..
Okay. Here we go.
So many people in the TSP fandom think that the Narrator actually cares about Stanley/the player during Zending, but it seems stupidly obvious to me that he DOESN'T?? He doesn't really care about Stanley/the player at all during any point in the game. Everything he does that he claims is to keep Stanley safe or to keep him from hurting himself is actually only because he doesn't want something to happen. Everything he does is for HIS OWN BENEFIT, he's a self-absorbed, narcissistic motherfucker who cares about no one but himself. It's incredible to me how people can overlook that, like really??? He even says it himself during Zending, he says "Please Stanley, don't take this from me!" HEAVILY implying that the only reason he is trying to stop Stanley from jumping off the staircase is because he doesn't want the game to reset for his own happiness. And people are constantly like "ohh, he actually cares about Stanley during Zending, it was so sad to watch him try and stop Stanley, the poor thing! He must love him so much!" NO. He doesn't. He just doesn't want the game to reset. He doesn't want to go back. If the game didn't reset when Stanley died, he wouldn't give a shit if Stanley jumped off the stairs or not. Many, MANY times during the game he resorts to degrading Stanley and pushing him away, even temporarily abandoning him several times (During the Games ending, during the Infinite Hole sequence in the Stanley Parable 2, etc.), Which really shows that he does NOT care about Stanley one bit. He is willing to hurt him emotionally and on rare occasions even physically if it'll force Stanley to give in to the Narrator's own wants. He also KNOWS that the bucket makes Stanley happy, and can't deal with his own jealousy, and so he tries to destroy or get rid of the bucket many times throughout the game. He just can't deal with the fact that something other than HIS GAME makes Stanley happy, the jealous bastard. He even actively praises Stanley for stabbing the bucket during one ending of the game. I don't mention her or Mariella much, but I feel like the Curator is just a much more sensible and rational person. Though we don't hear much from her at all during the game or know much about her character, just from the little dialogue we get from her she seems much more down to Earth. She seems like she could accept the fact that she isn't the greatest being in existence, and even actively praises the bucket, ridiculing Stanley for his carelessness with it. I headcanon Mariella and the Curator as the alternate, genderbend universe of Stanley and the Narrator, and I feel like the Curator would treat Mariella with much more respect than the Narrator treats Stanley.
Okay I'm done, if anyone actually reads all the way through to the end WOW. You actually deserve a medal or something holy crap š I still love Narrator by the way he's super cool even though I kind of hate him I love him so much
Ok, the time has come for me to write out the whole thesis thatās been bubbling away in my head for years about how deeply uncomfortable I have always been about elements of how Rodney McKay was handled as a character.
Iām sure thereās more I should say, and everything will be off the top of my head, cuz Iām not looking up episodes or plot points today. But here goes
McKay is introduced as an arrogant, deeply unpleasant man, who basically exists to clash with Sam, cause drama and tension, (and also make Sam look good). Then Atlantis started, and he became a main character. I think that was a really interesting choice, and overall a very good one, because itās sets up an incredible character arc. A regular leading character (who is one of theĀ āgood guysā)Ā cannot be as universally hateable as Rodney was when he was just a one (or two)-off character. But you canāt just scrap who he was when you introduced him, so how do you give him the kind of growth that makes him interesting and someone people want to root for?Ā
In many ways Atlantis did a great job of that. The show took him way out of his comfort zone, and put him under great stress, so that he had to up his game. It isolated him long term with a limited number of people, so he had to learn some basic people skills. And in doing both those things, it pushed him to the edge and showed us (and him) that McKay had bravery and a good heart and love for his friends and the willingness to risk himself for others. Heād covered all that over with an incredibly thick layer of ego and cowardice and boorish behaviour, but when against the wall, that awfulness could be broken through and the nobler side of him could start to come out. And that was primarily made possible because the show surrounded him with people who called him on his bullshit. For the first few years especially, all the main characters held him to account and made him behave and become better.
So given that Iāve praised him so much, why am I so uncomfortable with McKay?
Two reasons. There are a few important areas we did not see him grow significantly, and at a certain point the show stopped challenging his behaviour to the same extent.
First point first: ways he kept being horrible.Ā
He was a ghastly boss/coworker to the science team throughout. From the first episode to the last, he refused to learn his peopleās names, he belittled them and mocked their ideas and used them as scapegoats when things went badly but never gave them credit when things went well. Occasionally he feels bad about that, but usually only after someone he treated badly has died a horrible death. The show clearly wants us to feel bad for these people - especially poor Zelenka - but Rodneyās never held to account for it, and never improves. Zelenka complains about his treatment, Rodney makes a snarky joke, and we move on, feeling the scientistsā frustration, but clearly just supposed to roll our eyes and be ok with it. The overall message sent is that itās ok that Rodney treats people badly because heās brilliant and heāll save the day. Itād be nice if heād treat people better, but we have to make allowances somewhere. Honestly, Atlantis probably would have been better off without Rodney, because with him there you have one really smart person getting things done but crushing everyone around him in the process, whereas with him gone you might not have that individual star, but youād have a lot more very smart people who could actually work properly and achieve things as a team.
The other thing that never changes is his treatment of women - heās a serial sexual harasser. He sexually harasses Sam the first time he appears on SG-1, and itās gross, but heās meant to be gross then. But he keeps doing it through every single season of Atlantis. Sam alone gets harassed by him so many times - even when sheās his boss! In the sunken jumper episode he hallucinates up Sam dressed a way she would never dress, behaving a way she would never behave, and the way he talks to her makes my skin crawl. And yes I know sheās not really there, and he has a head injury,Ā but his creepiness is played for laughs. And then Sam takes over as commander of Atlantis, and then thereās the episode where they fall down the hole. First he tells Sam to flash the boys to bribe them to help - gross - and then he tries to convince Sam and Dr. Keller to strip under the pretense of making a rope out of their clothes. Again, itās played for laughs, and itās just fucking gross. Sam is his BOSS. Dr. Keller is his coworker. And all three of them are in extreme danger. And he is sexually harassing both women.Ā
That story is also my big example of how the show starts letting him off the hook. In that episode, Rodney repeatedly sexually harasses every woman in sight. Heās so desperate to puff his ego that insists he is more competent at something he has never done before than Sam the professional soldier who does things like that every day and actively sidelines her. In doing so, he also further endangers them, starting a gas fire (that Sam has to risk injury to put out), and pulling in more dirt when Sam tells him to stop. He repeatedly tries to get out of doing the actual hard work of saving them and instead spends his time being snarky and trying to prove how smart he is. And after all that, the narrative rewards him. Heās the hero, because he got rope burn but didnāt leave Sam to die. People admire him. He gets a date with Dr. Keller. Weāre just supposed to shake our heads affectionately at all of his grossness and goĀ āOh McKay...āĀ
In summary, the narrative bought into the idea of making allowances for exceptional men. Heās dreadful to his coworkers, but heās a genius who saves the day so weāll let him get away with that. He gets pushback for treating the main Atlantis team like that, but his non-field colleagues are apparently fair game. Heās a serial sexual harasser - and here nobody is safe, not even the main characters or the soldiers or the [insert category here], because we are consistently meant to find his sexual harassment funny, or at worst an irritation on the level of bad breath. And itās not. And finally, while the show did a good job of calling him out for the first few seasons, after that it started letting him off the hook, and buying into the glorification of Rodney McKay, no longer treating his unpleasant attributes as things to be worked on as part of a long character arc, but instead merely quirks that should be accepted.Ā
A deeply flawed character like McKay is an interesting challenge, and when they write him well I really enjoy him. But I can never overlook or forget about these really gross decisions that were made in writing him.
i feel⦠:/ my grades are not really what i want them too be. they are not bad, but in germany you need a really good bachelorās degree to get a master spot. they also cut down the spots because of a new reform. that means competition is really high and iām only average. iām so stressed about not getting a spot because i really really want to become a therapist. i know i could push myself harder, study more but i donāt want a life where i study all day and dread every day. itās kind of a dilemma? either have an everyday life which i donāt really enjoy and have the results i want (maybe) or the other way around. i also canāt stop comparing myself to others. why can others simply study a lot, know what to do to reach their dreams and donāt mind pushing themselves now (on the other side i know that thatās grind culture and a capitalistic way of thinking but we live inside the system so what other choice do i have??). in addition i used to be really good in school and i know this sounds pretentious but now being average is not doing much for my self worth. i kind of wish i could have it all or that the system would be different or that i just would push myself and stop making excuses. (but i wasnāt really happy in school bc of how much i had to do, i was very happy abt the results tho)
why,,, canāt I just like fuckin uhhhhhhh be happy??? like in my own skin and in my own house like I donāt understand why everything has to be terrible or unfavorable or why I canāt just feel 100% safe and loved in my own fucking HOUSE
Itās weird because I know my mom loves me but ever since I ācame outā to her the first time itās like I can feel the difference in her love for me. Like before, when I was āstraightā it was normal and everything was normal, but the moment I came out to her when I was fourteen it changed and itās been five fucking years and Iām MUCH more queer than she knows and sheāll ever know and I know, I just KNOW, if I was to come out fully to her she wouldnāt love me the same way, if at all, and I canāt take that risk where I am right now
Everything is so anxiety inducing about it and I literally wanna **** myself sometimes bc itās that bad and I canāt fix it the way I want to or make it go back to the way it was and it wonāt and I know it wonāt and thereās nothing I can do. Iām guilty for things I canāt control.

Went dress shopping a few days ago with some friends, and I have some grievances that I would like to get off my chest about the entire experience.
So a friend of mine is getting married, and she asked me to be her maid of honor (or āLeader Maidā as I once mistakenly called it). Iāve never been to a wedding, let alone had an actual role in one, so this is a fairly new experience for me in general. Fortunately the wedding is fairly low key, and I donāt have to buy a specific dress or even a specific style. As far as my friend is concerned as long as we stick to the color scheme the wedding party can pretty much wear whatever we want.
I still need a formal dress though, and I wanna look hot as fuck in that dress.
Now I hate shopping for clothes, and I absolutely loathe trying clothes on in the store. Shopping for clothes is in the ātop ten worst things that I consistently have to do in my lifeā list. Normally I walk into a store, head right for the menās section, pick out what I want, pay, and proceed to mentally repress the whole experience. Since menās clothes tend to have sizes which actually make human sense I can be fairly certain whatever I pick will fit me without the need to try it on.
Dress shopping is a whole new beast, and as a woman who has never actually bothered to own a dress before, I enlisted some help. My two closest friends agreed to come with me and help me pick something out or at least find some options to consider.
I didnāt think this was going to be that bad honestly. I had my friends with me to make buying clothes bearable, and Iām not normally self conscious about how I look. I have pretty shitty self esteem in general but Iāve never left my house feeling like I looked bad in the clothes I was wearing. Sure maybe my clothes donāt always flatter my body type properly but Iāve never thought I looked ugly.
Boy was I in for a rude awakening.
Not only was it nearly impossible just to find something that fit me let alone in a style I liked, but each and every dress I tried on made me feel hideous. Not even ugly, hideous.
I donāt know if this was just a problem with me and my vision of what I think looks good, because it certainly could be. I am well aware my idea of āfashionā tends to veer far from what is mainstream. I am also aware that Iāve got some chub in the stomach area and that I could crush the skulls of my enemies with my thighs. I might not be conventionally beautiful, but I have never felt this awful about how I looked before.
We went to dozens of stores, and each one managed to make me feel worse and worse. By the time we called it quits for the day not only did I not have a dress, but I actually felt like crying. I kept thinking to myself that there must be something wrong with me; that I had to be the one in the wrong if we could go to so many stores and I couldnāt find a single thing that made me feel beautiful or even just okay looking. Thank god this feeling didnāt stick with me long and I managed to shake it off within a couple of days but I keep thinking about it. I donāt feel ugly in the clothes I am wearing right now, but I canāt stop thinking about how easily I got dragged into this pit of despair just trying to find a dress to wear.
Maybe Iām not shopping in the right kinds of stores, sure an argument could be made that the stores we went to just donāt cater to my body type. But I would argue the opposite. No one should walk into a store, and feel ugly because they donāt fit some bullshit standard for what is beautiful. A person should be able to walk into a clothing store and find clothes that fucking fit them. Cute, sexy, and good looking clothes shouldnāt be only for people of a certain goddamn body type.
At this point I donāt really feel bad anymore, mostly Iām just angry. Iām getting pissed off just thinking about it. I still have plenty of time to find something to wear for the wedding, and I am going to be damn sure I look good. I am not going to settle for something that I feel self conscious in even if I have to sew the damn dress myself.
I guess the point of this story is that fashion sucks, clothing stores suck, and all women are beautiful regardless of their body type. Itās a fucking shame the world doesnāt seem to have caught onto that yet.
Iām not entirely sure why I decided to post this, mostly I just wanted to complain but I guess I also wanted to know if anyone else can relate? Or agrees? I dunno.
There were a lot of books that were read for English I hated growing up and I always wondered if I hated them because I was forced to read them. I always wondered if I read them on my own free will and didn't have to pick apart whole chapters or analyze what the theme of the book would I have different opinions of them. Most of these books would be considered classics and I just remember hating them so much. One particular book that just made me irrationally angry was Jane Eyre. I don't remember too much about it other than I hated it with a burning passion. I read the book as summer reading before starting 10th grade and in my opinion (at the time) it was simply the worst book I had ever read. I remember reading other books (of my own choosing) afterword that had referenced Jane Eyre and I had to take a break from reading because it would make me so angry. I'm not sure if I were to have the same feelings toward this book today if I read it again(not that I have any desire to do so), but I also wonder why this books (or even other "classics") are viewed as so important by the literary world that they must be referenced over and over. Also does being forced to read a book always have a negative impact on ones opinion of the book or is that just me?
Wow, itās been a year now since i last posted anything here. Iām still alive, if anyone is still here at all to care. Um. Last post I did was about the status of my mental health, so I guess a follow-up would be prudent, no?
So now itās official. I have both Aspergers and ADHD. I thought it was just ADD, but no. The hyperactivity aspect is something I very much have. Itās just that it doesnāt manifest physically - it simply manifests mentally in that my mind is always everywhere at once - that my train of thought manifests more like a puppy on its first snow day than like an actual train.
Iāve been on antidepressants for 13 months now, but Iāve only really felt any real effect from them for the last month and a half as I finally got to change med type. The first type barely helped and gave me nightmares two nights out of three, but those things were small and irrelevant enough for me to it really bring it up until now. Because for all that time, I have been searching for and adjusting to ADHD meds as well, and you only want to sort through one set of side-effects at a time. Turns out Iām really sensitive to side effects, so finding the right type and dosage took a long time, and Iām not certain that the one Iām on now is the best choice still.Ā
Iām still on full-time sick leave for burnout, since February 14th last year. Currently it will last until the end of August, then weāll reevaluate from there. Hopefully I can start studying again by that point, if only at 50%.
Turns out, it takes a really long time to recover from a bout of burnout that has had five entire years of buildup.Ā
So what am I doing now? Mostly just being useless. Restless but without the energy to do anything about it. I barely eat these days, and my sleep cycle is just completely nonexistent. See, in large part due to aforementioned double-whammy of Aspergers and ADHD, my capacity for self discipline is basically nil. With me being on sick leave, I have nothing that forces me to get up and do stuff. There is no reason other than my own health to get up in the morning.
Add to that the fact that both my current antidepressants and my ADHD meds lower my appetite. I do not get hungry anymore. I just get tremors in the late afternoon when Iāve forgotten to eat all day. I can go entire days where I am never ever hungry, and when I finally manage to make something to eat and force myself to just eat it dammit, I can barely get half the meal down.
My doctor has actually advised me to eat small snacks through the entire day to make up for it. You know, the thing that youāre usually heavily discouraged from doing? :ā)
In conclusion, my daily life is kinda shit. Iām doing what I can to get better at it all, even going to group therapy every week, but it feels like a Sisyphean effort.Ā
Iām too burnt out to study or work, but without study or work, I canāt really recover properly. Itās one real bastard of a catch 22.
Iād move back home, but thatās not really an option. Not now that the familyās got a much smaller apartment. Iād have to live on the couch, in a living room with no possible way of real privacy. And Iām an introvert. I am really fortunate to have a family as loving and supportive as I do, and I love them dearly - but I NEED my space. When I went there over the winter holidays, just those two and a half weeks I was there was enough to suck me completely dry of energy.Ā
If anyone has any advice, Iād love to hear them. Because I need them desperately.
So well. Thatās where I am now.Ā
[garbling thought-vomit about social issues and the failings of tumblr as a community below. Probably best ignored.]
So, whyād I disappear from Tumblr? Should be obvious. The state of my mental health is bad enough without having to deal with the constant anxiety of dealing with this social network. The nonexistence of nuance and the total intolerance of anything even remotely problematic. And the idea that if you like anything that has any problematic aspects in it at all, that means YOU are problematic and are to be ashamed.
Itās actually a really hostile environment for creatives.Ā
The pressure to be perfect and totally 100% inclusive at all times with not a nanometerās space for human error or honest mistakes, the attitude thatĀ āif youāre not perfect 100% of the time always you are EVIL AND BAD AND SHALL BE SHUNNED FOREVERMOREā.Ā
The attitude a lot of Tumblr seem to have that the only things you are ever allowed to write or otherwise portray are essentially self-portraits because if you havenāt personally experienced it you should never ever write it ever. Kinda makes it impossible to even try to do properly inclusive work for fear of getting even a single minute detail wrong. Itās actually really really fucking hostile and I hate hate hate it. Like, I keep seeing creators of all kinds - writers, artists, cartoonists, animators and game devs alike try their very hardest to make something as inclusive and culturally diverse as they can, only to be rewarded with heaps upon heaps of abuse from Tumblr users just because they werenāt 100% perfect in every single aspect, or that their efforts were seen asĀ āvirtue signalingā and are only doing it to make themselves look good and that is false and sin and to be PUNISHED.
Itās like the reward for trying your best to make something that everyone can enjoy without feeling left out is only hate and vitriol.Ā
(All the while creators who do not care about inclusivity at all get perhaps but a mere fraction of this abuse, I might add. Itās pretty fucking insane when you think about it.)
Itās suffocating.
And itās total fucking bullshit.
People make mistakes.Ā
People change.Ā
And people can absolutely grow from those mistakes and be better.Ā
But Tumblr as a community keeps fostering this attitude that if you have ever said or done anything even remotely wrong on any level, regardless of the context or how long ago it was or how much better you have grown to be since then, once an uninformed or unthinking statement - accidental or not - always a racist. Or homophobe. Or transphobe. Or ableist. Or any kind of -ist or -phobe imaginable.
Iāve been very fortunate to not really have had to endure any witch-hunt personally, but I saw them happen all the time. And it just. Well. I got really fucking tired of it, and it further worsened my mental health by quite a lot. I just cared too much that I couldnāt stop ranting about it in my head. Sometimes for days.
So I left.
Why am I back? Honestly, I have no idea. I guess I still have a lot of thoughts about things and Iāve been really isolated this last year, so I just need a place where I can put them.
I intend to go on a bit of a purge of the blogs I follow and start with a zero-tolerance policy for witch-hunting bullcrap and other drama.Ā
See, I have a pretty simple, straightforward moral code. Itās often difficult to follow, due to the human brain working as it does with itās shitty, garbage, garbage āus vs themā mentality, but it is something I intend do always strive for.
No one should ever be judged for that which they can not control
Ever. That includes the entire spectrum of skintones, every single possible gender identity, sexuality, romantical affiliation, neuropsychiatric status - normal or otherwise, physical condition, place of birth, state of family or culture they grew up in. Or anything else I can think of.
No one picks the toolbox theyāre born with. All that should ever matter to anyone is what they build with it.
Fuck jokes about skin colour - ANY skin colour - itās tacky and only serves to further strengthen the idea that they somehow make people fundamentally different, and that idea can get set on fire and shot into the sea.Ā
Yes, there are absolutely issues with the culture surrounding differences in levels of melatonin. White people like myself carry a lot of privilege in the west, and darker skinned people of all kinds absolutely do face a lot of unjust treatment in the world. No matter what country in the world you are in, that placeāsĀ ādefaultā - how I detest that unfortunate consequence of the human brain functioning as it does - will always carry a strong privilege compared to those who do not fit that default.Ā
But itās all cultural. Thereās nothing inherent in looking any certain way that dictates a personāt being. Itās all the norms and values of the culture they were raised in - and cultures change.
Itās slow. Itās difficult. But it is absolutely a worthwhile struggle, is it not?
And, maybe a reasonable path to changing a culture to be more inclusive is to maybe not constantly call attention to such differences? Because that only strengthens the idea that the trait pointed out isĀ āotherā - not part of theĀ ānormalā.Ā
And we want to widen the definition of normal to include all of us. Right? Thatās pretty much this entire communityās mission statement, isnāt it?
Iām thinking that simply acting like a trait is normal, that itās not something thatās even worth calling attention to, does a lot to normalise that trait. To help it be included within the definition of normal.Ā
Maybe Iām wrong. But I donāt think I am.
And then thereās the whole thing with white guilt/cultural shame or pride or any somesuch. I have thoughts. Probably pretty controversial thoughts. So Iām preparing myself for pitchforks.
Feeling shame or guilt over whatever hand you drew in the grand lottery of genetical happenstance is just really fucking stupid. That much should be thoroughly established by now.
But the thing is, so is feeling pride, for the same reason. You did fuck all to affect what you got. The deeds of your ancestors have nothing whatsoever to do with you.Ā
You donāt get to choose your toolbox. You can only choose what to do with it.
It feels kind of weird to condemn cultural pride as a concept like this, but I do. I really honestly do. Because itās dumb. Incredibly hard to drop, absolutely - most of us are fed with it since birth, after all - but itās still dumb. I mean, what on earth did anyone do to earn the culture they grew up in?
Nothing.
Because itās entirely out of your hands.
Treasure your culture, absolutely! Revel in it. Learn all you want and can and strive to carry it forth to the next generation, and to teach anyone who wishes to listen. Absolutely do! Take pride in your accomplishments. Take pride in what you do to carry your culture forth into the future. Take pride in what you help others accomplish. Take pride in what you do to raise public awareness of the reality of your culture. Or your sexuality. Or gender identity. Or any other aspect of your being that is being woefully misrepresented somewhere.Ā
But donāt take pride in simply being what you are.Ā
Because thatās just part of the completely random toolbox you got at birth - a toolbox you could not have possibly chosen any part of.
Taking pride OR feeling shame over things that you had no hand in is something you have no right or reason to do.
Never judge anyone - not even yourself - by what they have. Judge only by what they DO with what they have.
These thoughts have all been spawned by my time on tumblr. Itās a community that wants to be progressive and inclusive, but is much too often anything but. Itās all complaining, all vitriol, all salt, all echo chambers fostering this kind of thinking. Very little, if any, actual attempts at working towards real improvement.
I remember seeing a comic that circulated some time ago. About equality vs equity. There were these three kids standing by a fence, trying to watch a game of some sport or another taking place at the other side. They were all different height.Ā
In the equality picture, all three kids got a box to stand on, of equal size.
In the equity picture, they got a different amount of boxes, making it so all of them could see over the fence.
But there was a third picture. One rarely included.Ā
This picture adressed the fence itself. It swapped the wooden fence to a wire fence. One that all three kinds could see the game through, without any need of boxes.
Thatās the kind of world Iād much rather live in. One where the barrier itself is adressed. Where there is no need for boxes to stand on.Ā
Yet all anyone can really, truly do, is do as Michael Jackson said, and start with the man in the mirror.
We can complain. We can decry. We can wallow. But itās all for naught if we donāt then step up and act on it.
I'm sick and tired of the ceaseless complaining without action and the oppressive feeling of helplessness fostered here. I want to actually DO something to help the world be better. And if Iām not in a position where I can help personally, I can at least reach out to those in a position to do so.
This is why I donate to charity whenever I can afford it, despite my miniscule budget of a university student on sick leave with a lot of medical fees.
This is why I endeavor to always smile to strangers, be they the retail worker at the checkout, a simple passerby or the cold beggar on the street.
This is why I am always eager to share what I know with people who may need it, be it pointers about mental health or simply how to patch up a torn pair of pants.
All minuscule, inconsequential acts in the grand scheme of things. But itās something. Itās my small straw, pulled to the anthill. Makes me feel just a little tiny bit less helpless about all the terrible things in the world.
Because even if itās something small, itās better than doing nothing. Far better than simply complaining and wallowing about a problem without ever following it up with action.
I donāt even know what Iām on about anymore. I should probably stop writing. Get something to eat. Go to sleep. Bye for now, then.
