This speaks to one of the reasons I am choosing to downgrade from a smart phone to a regular slider that only functions as a text/call phone. Yesterday was supposed to be day 1 of not having a smart phone. My new downgraded phone arrived in the mail. I had plenty of time to drive to the store to have them get a new sim card to fit it and I didn’t. I made excuses about how tired I was, that I had just gotten back and helped my mother pack for her trip. I mad excuses that my knee still hurts from the injury and physical therapy. Then the rest of the night and most of this morning was spent using my cell phone to browse the web. I saw this video posted on Facebook from the very phone I am trying to get rid of. I thought, wow this speaks to me and the world I see. It speaks to me so instead of laying in bed texting and playing with my phone I got up. I went outside and rode my bike for the first time in forever. I rode for 20 minutes, only having to stop because I am so out of shape and my knee is still recovering. For 20 minutes I was out in the world, breathing the morning air and cycling past others. Waving and nodding and we continued on our way. My face wasn’t stuck in my phone for those lovely 20 minutes. I can already tell this will be a huge struggle for me but I want to make it work. Not only the cell phone, but really changing my life. It’s average, its boring. It’s rinse, lather, repeat. It could be something, it could be exciting, it could be rinse, lather, onto the next adventure. Later this morning, before I meet the family for lunch, I will stop by the store, and get my phone set up. Let’s live outside the screens when out in the world. Just spend a little time inside with your screen, but go back out into the world and live, laugh and enjoy it.
