1. If you were thrust into the world of your favorite book, how long would you survive? Ingary (from Howl's Moving Castle) seems pretty calm as long as you don't run into any witches. Probably into old age.
2. What book has taught you the most? Probably Song of Solomon or Alice in Wonderland. I fell in love with Pilate from Song of Solomon, and I love the way she lives her life. Alice was something I read at a younger age and she managed to put up with all that crap thrown at her, and I thought I could do that too.
3. Do you remember the first chapter book you ever read? If yes, what was it? One of the Junie B. Jones books, definitely.
4. What fictional character would you allow to set you up on a blind date? I instantly thought of Dumbledore for whatever reason. He'd probably be good at setting up dates.
5. What is the strangest place you have ever attempted to read a book at? I read a book at a basketball game once. While eating shrimp.
6. Grab whatever book is closest to you right now and open it to 47. What is the first sentence you see on that page? "Sometimes he would emerge from his den with cracker crumbs all over the front of his shirt or sweater, carrying his plastic bucket to the kitchen for a refill."
7. An author calls you and thanks you for being such an awesome fan, and then proceeds to invite you to go get coffee. Who is that author? Hello, Maggie Stiefvater. Tell me what happens in the third book of the raven cycle.
8. If you could have the wardrobe/fashion style of any fictional character, whose would it be? Why? I didn't really like City of a Thousand Dolls (meaning, nothing stood out to me) but the descriptions of the clothing were mouth-watering. I'd love to wear that kind of stuff.
9. Do you prefer books to have pictures of real people on the cover, or to have something more artistic and conceptual as the cover? (i.e. the Blood Lines series by Richelle Mead versus Graceling by Kristin Cashore) I hate covers with real people on them. They destroy my perception of what that person should look like. I'm super picky about my covers and artistic ones are the best.
10. If you could instantly have any book in the world, what would it be? I think I own most of the books (or I could get them over time) that I would want. Easton Press books are gorgeously bound though, and they're super expensive, so I'd take one of those.
11. What is a book that you absolutely despise? The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I remember putting it down and being absolutely disappointed in the "female version" of The Catcher in the Rye, because I loved that book. The main character was extremely unlikable and there's a scene in which she puts down a character referred to only as the "negro boy," and it's seen as a personal victory for her. It was just too racist to attribute it to a perception of the times.
