a little jily and wolfstar potions thing, based on the post about lily and james finding their amortenia smells like each other's scent :) ‘Blimey, Evans, just get the ingredients.’ James watched as Lily spun around so fast her red hair whipped her in the face. ‘You get the ingredients.’ She spoke through her teeth, refusing to look at him, her arms crossed. Amortenia, Slughorn had called the potion, and nearly the whole class had rolled their eyes when he told them what it did. But still, intrigued, everyone had rushed to find a partner until James and Lily were left, and Slughorn was more than happy to pair two of his top students together. James snorted. ‘Just cause you’re worried that I’ll make a better potion than you doesn’t mean – ’ ‘I am not worried you’ll make a better potion than me! Besides, we’re making a potion together – ’ ‘So what’s the problem then?’ James asked just as Sirius popped his head in between them. ‘Ah, Re, how did we ever think they’d get through one lesson without fighting?’ He asked as he walked past them, Remus shaking his head in mock disappointment from his and Sirius’ table to the side. Sirius continued, dodging Snape with a glare, who had hurried to the front to get the best of each ingredient before rushing to the back of the room. ‘It’s not like we don’t love the unresolved tension between the two of you during late nights studying in the common room by the fire because you’re determined to outdo each other, or you –’ he turned to look at Lily pointedly – ‘cheering the loudest out of everyone watching Quidditch whenever James gets the snitch – ’ ‘Which is always.’ James supplied with a half grin as Sirius nodded fairly before continuing, turning away from Lily’s flushing cheeks and now shooting his best friend a meaningful look. ‘And you, pretending like the letters L.E you dawdle into every single surface you can find don’t stand for – ’ Before he could finish, there was a loud crash, followed by Professor Slughorn muttering good-naturedly to a student that they wouldn’t have marks taken off if their potion contained broken glass, although he was writing down something with a disappointed look, saving a blushing James from retorting back. ‘But alas,’ Sirius walked past Lily and James back to Remus, his hands full, ‘sometimes Moony and I do crave the quiet, content sort of atmosphere to work in that isn’t filled with you two shooting love arrows at each other disguised as daggers.’ James raised an eyebrow, watching Lily’s eyes roll as she caved and made her way to the front to get their ingredients. ‘Don’t get me started on you two.’ He said to Sirius and Remus as Mary Macdonald swore from behind him, her potion already smoking and smelling faintly of rotting leaves. Professor Slughorn hurried over to her as James continued. ‘The meaning of the expression silent night goes out the window with you two, honestly, if I were asleep all those times you thought I was, I might be innocent for another couple more years.’ Before Sirius could answer or Remus could pretend not to have heard, an amused voice followed James’. ‘You really have no grasp of the phrase come quietly, you know that, Pads?’ Lily was back, making her way around their table and laying out everything she had got for the potion in front of them , James watching her with a silent awe, grinning. She caught his eye and grinned back, and they both temporarily forgot their argument in favour of making fun of Sirius and Remus. Soon, the dungeon was filled with the excited chatter of pairs looking into cauldrons with wide eyes, the hushed whispers of angry arguments over who accidentally knocked whose wand into the potion, and a general smattering of cursing from all tables. James and Lily, now deeply immersed in their textbooks, were silently at war with each other once again. ‘No, it’s cause you can’t stand to admit you’re wrong.’ Lily murmured through a forced smile in response to James’ comment (‘you’re only ignoring me because you know I’m right’) as Slughorn passed them and tapped his watch warningly. Sure enough, a few minutes later he called to the class, ‘five minutes to go!’ That seemed to snap the two of them into action, and, for the next few minutes, they worked seamlessly together, James ducking when Lily threw something into the cauldron and Lily sticking James’ wand behind his ear as he struggled to find a place for it on the table. A few minutes later, James had straightened up, wild hair and black smudged across his face from the cauldron’s fire and Lily, wide-eyed and with dirty fingernails, stared along with him at the potion. It was an opaque liquid, with a mother-of-pearl sheen to it, spiralling steam drifting up to the ceiling. They gave each other a quick glace before leaning in over the potion, breathing in for a few seconds deeply. Then, they both drew back, defeated looks playing across their faces. ‘I can’t smell a damn thing.’ James broke the silence finally. ‘Impossible.’ Lily’s tone was full of confidence, but he knew she couldn’t either. ‘I’m completely sure we did it right.’ James ran a hand through his hair, almost knocking his wand out from behind his ear. ‘Well obviously not.’ They both looked around the room; most students were sitting back, exhausted, as their potions bubbled and hissed, black, tar-like substances boiling or runny orange droplets splashing their disappointed faces every few seconds. Not many had managed to perfect the potion. Snape was one of the few who had, skulking somewhere in the corner of the room, marvelling at his accomplishment. James looked sideways to see Sirius leaning over his and Remus’ cauldron, his eyes closed as he inhaled the scent. A warm smile spread across his face and James swore he heard something about chocolate slip out of his mouth before Slughorn got his attention. ‘And what do we have here, Miss Evans, Mr Potter?’ He peered over their cauldron hopefully, smiling, before rocking back on the balls of his feet as he scribbled down excitedly on his parchment. ‘Don’t bother, Professor, it’s not right.’ James said, sighing. Sirius and Remus looked over to them, interested. ‘Oh?’ Slughorn looked between them and then back to the potion. ‘But, Merlin’s beard! It is perfect!’ He waved a hand in the air for emphasis, effectively splattering those behind him with ink from his extravagant quill. ‘Can’t smell a thing.’ Lily shook her head. At this, Sirius and Remus exchanged glances and moved closer ever so causally. ‘Ah, well, we’ve come to the end of class regardless.’ Slughorn sounded disappointed, scribbling on his parchment as he walked away. Lily let out a small scream, throwing her book down and leaning on the edges of the cauldron, well aware that the heat was making the underside of her forearms red. James tugged her hair away as it fell from behind her ear, nearly dipping into the potion, picking up his textbook with his other hand and reading the instructions one last time. A few seconds later, he groaned and set the book down. ‘Lily, the potions prodigy and James, the son of the great hair potion inventor Fleamont – ’ Sirius started, jumping up to sit on the table opposite them as James glared at him. Sirius, ignoring this, went on, ‘who also has the middle name Fleamont – ’ he nodded solemnly at Frank Longbottom, who was cleaning up the table Sirius was sitting on and desperately trying not to laugh, ‘you two are what Slughorn’s wet dreams are made out of. You’re the potions dream team – ’ ‘Aside from us!’ Remus called from the other side of the room, pushing a cauldron into a cupboard and not even bothering to turn around. Sirius nodded in agreement. ‘We are excellent.’ He grinned before turning back to James and Lily, who were not amused. ‘It’s one potion, what’s it matter?’ Lily made a noise of frustration and James shook his head. ‘Washed up at sixteen. Shame, really.’ Sirius said, putting on a fleeting, nostalgic look before bouncing off the table and joining Remus. ‘It’s got to be right, we didn’t do a thing different to the instructions!’ James burst out suddenly, frustrated beyond belief that all he could smell was Lily’s perfume that was overwhelming his senses every time he leant over to sniff the potion. ‘Well, perhaps I could actually smell something if you didn’t use buckets of conditioner this morning.’ Lily retorted dryly, her eyes narrowed. James paused, then turned to look at her in incredulity. ‘You can’t talk, all I can smell is your bloody honey and vanilla perfume, it’s giving me an asthma attack.’ ‘Don’t try and blame me for you screwing up the potion.’ Lily crossed her arms. James saw Sirius and Remus pause, and then start packing up more slower than before. ‘Oh, of course you’d blame me for stuffing up the bloody potion, because you can’t do anything wrong – ’ Lily rolled her eyes. ‘You just can’t admit that I’m better than you at potions and you made a mistake! You read the instructions wrong or – ’ ‘You were the one adding most of the stuff in, you probably knocked something into it without even realizing – ’ There was another minute of them arguing back and forth, while Sirius and Remus hid their grins, Sirius turning each page of his potions books agonisingly slowly to shut it and Remus becoming very invested in scrubbing a stain off the table, before the shouting stopped, and suddenly, Lily realized something that was very irrelevant but had been tugging at her since James said it. ‘And I ran out of my perfume last week.’ She said to him as he had stopped to huff in annoyance, turning to start packing up, and, despite himself, James’ eyes flickered to hers. ‘Hang on.’ He frowned slightly as he recalled earlier in the day, and she paused to look at him. ‘I didn’t have time to wash my hair this morning, Sirius was hogging the shower.’ They both looked up, and Sirius met their eyes as he turned page five hundred and twenty three with such deliberateness that Remus had to bite his tongue to stop from laughing. James and Lily looked back to each other in stunned silence, their eyes widening. ‘Hang on – ’ ‘But – ’ Another moment of silence, in which Sirius and Remus seemed to pack up alarmingly quickly. ‘Bout time.’ Remus said to them as he and Sirius made their way out of the classroom, the last ones still there besides James and Lily, and the faint sound of hands slapping together in achievement made its way through their daze. Lily and James stared at each other for much too long a time; startled green eyes meeting the wide hazel ones, silently wondering the same thing. Later, after they had packed up in a confused silence and headed to the common room, they would make eye contact across from the fire and look away hastily, both refusing to start a conversation about it because they were too scared of how it would end. Later, when Remus would nudge James and give him a knowing look, James would raise an eyebrow at him and mutter something about Remus smelling Sirius’ jumpers, and he’d shut up. Later, when Sirius would jump onto the armchair of the couch Lily was half asleep on and ask her in no more than a whisper if he should buy James that conditioner for Christmas, he glare was enough to make him change the subject to anything but James. And later, when everyone had gone up to bed and it was just James and Lily in the common room, eyelids heavy and faces warm from the fire, they’d mumble goodnights, stumbling over words as they made their way to their dormitories, both looking back to watch the other go, both too scared to wonder what would happen if they had stayed down there a while longer.
hi, here's a little harry drabble that i wrote forever ago and just now edited :-)
((((lower case intended))))
summer sat on the toilet seat of her bathroom, her legs crossed indian style and her fingers nervously picking at her already chipped, purple nail polish. she was more than a little bit freaked out. she was late and nauseous and those two symptoms together usually only meant one thing.
she hadn't said the word aloud, or even thought it, which was why she was currently calling her situation the thing. the thing could either make or break her relationship with harry right now, which meant that if there was a little pink plus sign on the in-home thingy test processing on her counter that she would be a single mother, raising a baby with no money and no help.
summer and harry had been dating for almost eight months and rarely fought, but lately they'd been bickering like crazy. it was always about stupid things, and by the end of the night she and harry would end up cuddled under the duvet like the fight never happened. this morning, summer woke up in a terrible mood (probably due to the fact that she felt like shit) and she and harry fought about one of his co-workers that was flirting with him the night before at the celebration dinner for signing a big contract. summer held in her comments the night before, not wanting to start an argument, but she had let a bitter remark slip from her lips in the morning and suddenly they were arguing. after a good ten minutes of snappy hisses at one another, harry rolled his eyes and grabbed his coat.
"i'm done fighting with you." he snapped, before slamming their flat's navy blue painted door closed. summer winced. harry rarely walked out of fights, he always made sure they worked it out. immediately after harry left, summer threw her guts up in the bathroom. it was while pondering how unsanitary it was for her forehead to be gently resting against the toilet seat when she had an epiphany. she was late, she was grumpy, she was nauseous. she had a thing.
summer jumped up and grabbed her wallet, then dashed down to the drugstore around the block. she was in and out of there, carrying a brown paper bag that felt like it weighed a ton as she scurried back into her apartment.
summer checked her wristwatch. it had been six minutes, she could look now. she lowered her wrist and let out a long sigh before letting her dainty feet touch the cold bathroom tiles. she stood and walked to the sink, where the test sat. it took all the power she had to pick it up, but she still hadn't even glanced down at it. she couldn't. all she could do was stare at her reflection, her eyes roaming her own face for over a minute before her self-conscious (that sounded a lot like her very bossy best friend) snapped at her and she let her eyes fall down to the test in her hand.

after the initial shock of the thing (she still refused to even think the word pregnant), summer went with her first instinct and hid the test deep in a basket in their closet with things harry would never go through, then discarded of the test's box in the dumpster outside of their building. she walked briskly to her best friend's store after that, not knowing what else to do. she was only nineteen, for crying out loud, she was still taking classes at uni.
flo was nineteen as well, and had inherited her parents' store as soon as she was of legal age. she loved the old antique shop, as did everyone who ever entered. summer often visited flo at the store just to hangout, which was why she wasn't surprised to see her friend walk briskly by the window, then in through the front door. what did surprise flo, though, was that summer's face was ghostly white and serious. flo faltered in her speech to the man she was persuading to buy a vintage mirror when she caught summer's eye. summer walked right up to them.
"i need to talk to you," summer said to flo, completely disregarding the man she was talking to.
"summer, i'm with a customer," flo chuckled nervously, shooting the man an apologetic look.
"i don't care," summer responded, glancing up to the man. "he can wait."
"just wait a minute-" flo started, but the man cut her off.
"does she work here?" he asked.
"no, she's just a friend who-"
"it is extremely unprofessional for you to interact with someone about non-business things while with a customer," the man scolded. flo sighed, keeping her temper at bay and opening her mouth to respond politely to the customer. summer had a different idea.
"actually, it's extremely rude for you to even have an opinion, seeing as you know nothing of the urgency of this situation," summer snapped.
with this, summer grabbed onto flo's arm and pulled the red head into the store's back room, closing the door behind her. flo frowned at summer for being rude to a customer and for being so pully. she crossed her arms over her chest and smacked her gum.
"what the hell is it that you had to pull me away from a customer?" flo asked exasperatedly.
summer didn't know how to tell her in any other way except for the plain truth, so instead of beating around the bush or referring to it once again as the thing, she just blurted it out. "i'm pregnant."
flo stopped chewing (and maybe breathing) mid-smack, her jaw staying open as she stared wide-eyed at her best friend.
"w-what?" she stuttered.
"i'm pregnant. i took a test and i'm pregnant," summer repeated, her eyes breaking away from flo's bright green one's and casting to the converse she'd slipped on. it was quiet for a moment before flo started to fire questions at her.
"w-when? how? what did harry say?" she asked hastily, stepping forward and pushing summer gently into one of the metal chairs they sat in while they talked back here, then pulling one up for herself.
"uh, this morning i took the test, and uh, i think you know how, and i haven't told him. i came straight here after destroying the evidence," summer said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"destroying the evidence?" flo gaped.
"y'know, throwing the test box in the dumpster and hiding the test so if he came home he wouldn't find it. i'm not completely daft."
"but i think you are. god, you've got to tell harry," flo said. summer gulped at the thought of telling harry. he was twenty-two years old, fresh out of uni and working for a record company. he had this whole, big future planned out for himself and a baby with his nineteen year old girlfriend who he was only dating because she was young and fun was not part of the plan.
"h-he's gonna freak. he'll walk away and i'll have no one," summer stammered.
"harry won't walk away, don't be stupid," flo scolded her, "he loves you more than anyone else."
everyone around them could see the way harry looked at summer, except summer of course. she still thought that she was only temporary in his life, despite the fact that he'd told her he loved her and he asked her to move in with him five months in. summer was completely daft, honestly. even after three months of living with together, harry was still completely mad for her and she was totally oblivious.
"he's gonna be so pissed. i must've forgotten to take my pill or something," summer said, shaking her head.
"hey, stop blaming yourself. you're not the one who knocked you up," flo frowned. "harry could've wrapped it up."
summer looked up at flo with tear-filled eyes. "i'm so scared, flo."
"i know, kiddo, i know. you can do this, though," she said, reaching up and brushing a strand of summer's hair our of her face. "go home, bake a cake, and tell harry. call me tomorrow, yeah?"
summer nodded, standing up and hugging her best friend. they parted ways after that, summer returning to she and harry's apartment, and flo returning to the customer waiting for her.
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
summer took flo's advice and made a cake at home. it was triple fudge, she and harry's favorite. she hoped it would soften the blow. harry got home around five, walking in with a sigh and hanging up his coat. summer had a whole speech planned out for what she was going to say, but when harry stepped into the fluorescent lighting of their kitchen, her words were somehow all forgotten in a matter of mere seconds.
"hi," she squeaked. harry raised his eyebrows. summer was rarely a girl of few words.
"hey," harry responded, eyeing the cake she was icing. "triple fudge?"
summer nodded, giving him her best attempt at a smile. he didn't quite understand the gesture, but he took the few steps over to her and pulled at her shirt to get her to step away from the cake and give him her attention. he immediately pulled her into a hug, his warmth enveloping her like a blanket.
"i'm sorry about this morning," he mumbled into her hair. she took a deep breath in, having completely forgot about the little spat they'd had while getting ready after the day she'd had.
"me too," she murmured into his shirt.
"i really am, though. bailey is a flirt and i don't shoot her down. i noticed it today while we were listening to a guy in the studio. you were right, sum," harry said. summer felt tears well up in her eyes, she knew what was coming next. "i love you, i'm sorry for walking out like i did."
summer let out an involuntary sob into harry's chest, and he pulled her away at arm's length to examine why the hell his girlfriend was crying over a simple apology. "harry, we need to talk." summer said, calming herself down and hastily wiping away the few tears that had fallen. harry frowned, but nodded and led her to the living room where he sat her down on the couch, then sat on the coffee table in front of her.
"i-i noticed this morning that i was late," summer said nervously, "and after you left, i threw up everything i ate last night. so, i went to the drugstore and i bought a test. it was positive."
harry stared at summer, his eyes wide and lips slightly parted. "w-what?"
"i'm pregnant, harry," summer said. harry continued to stare at his girlfriend in complete shock until she couldn't take his lack of response any longer. "say something."
"how did this happen? we're always so careful!" harry nearly yelled,, standing to pace around the room. "i've got so much going on, and hell, you're still in school. we can't possibly be having a child!"
"we are," summer said quietly. harry stopped pacing to place his face in one of his hands. he looked like he was physically in pain.
summer stood and went to him her eyes once again filled with tears, taking his elbow into her grasp. "please," she whispered desperately, "please don't leave me. i can't do this on my own."
harry let the hand he was using to cover his face come off as he gaped at the young, short girl in front of him. her eyes were closed as she sniffled and tears fell down her cheeks. he stared down at her in shock at her words. she thought he was going to leave her?
"summer, baby, i'm not going anywhere. not ever," harry said, his fingers wrapping around her bicep. "i love you more than anything in the world, i wouldn't ever."
summer glanced up at her boyfriend with wet, thankful eyes. "i love you," she whimpered. harry pulled her into his chest and ran his fingers through the back of her hair. it was quiet for a while, not including summer's whimpers and sniffles.
"i'm so fucking scared," she whispered, her head placed so that her ear was pressed against harry's heart. she could hear it beneath his ribs hammering thump, thump, thump.
"me too," harry whispered back. he pulled her away at arm's length looking down at her. "but we'll figure this out. we're in this together, babe."
summer smiled, and got up on her tippy toes to place a soft kiss on harry's lips. it wasn't passionate or needy, but sweet and just what they needed. harry rubbed his nose against summer's lovingly after their lips parted, then he carried her to bed at six in the evening.
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
telling the parents wasn't exactly easy. summer almost had a mental breakdown in the car on the way to her parents' home in manchester, but thankfully harry calmed her down. they broke the news bluntly, as they sat on a love seat in the living room.
"mum, dad," summer started, squeezing harry's hand so tightly that it was loosing circulation, "i'm pregnant."
the room was quiet for a moment as they stared in total shock at summer, then at harry, then at them together.
"you're pregnant? like officially?" her mother stammered. summer and harry nodded. "when did you find out?"
"wednesday," harry answered. summer's parents had always adored the charming, older boy their daughter was dating and he was scared they were going to hate him now. they couldn't hate him or summer, though. summer because, well, she was their flesh and blood, and harry because he was obviously madly in love with their daughter.
the room was quiet for a moment, and then summer's parents turned to look at eachother. it seemed they were having a mental conversation. they turned back and smiled softly at the couple in front of them.
"well," her father said, "there’s no going back now. we’re happy for you two, even if it is early."
summer and harry let out a sigh before both grinning. "thank you, for being supportive," summer said.
"we wouldn't be anything else," her mother admitted, standing to engulf the two soon-to-be-parents in a hug. her father hugged them as well, making sure to pat harry on the back and reminding him that he was no longer just looking out for one of his babies, but now two.
telling harry's mother and step-father went differently. harry and summer sat at the dinner table with harry's family, including his mum anne, his step-dad robin, his sister gemma, and his sister's boyfriend, michael. harry cleared his throat after everyone was done eating, only sitting around chatting and everyone's attention fell upon him.
"there's, uh, a reason summer and i came home this weekend. we have an announcement," harry told everyone. they gave him their full attention, while summer slid her dainty hand into his on his lap. "summer's pregnant."
"serious?" gemma asked, looking back and forth at them wide-eyed. her boyfriend didn't comment.
"oh my," anne said. that was all she said. robin just stared at them.
"you're pregnant?" gemma had her full attention on summer. summer nodded, meekly. "but you're so fucking tiny! you can't be!"
"gemma," anne hissed.
"i-i am," summer stammered. harry hated this. he hated how summer looked like a slut for being pregnant at nineteen with her twenty-two year old boyfriend while he got no judgement at all.
"how far along are you?" gemma asked.
"we don't know yet, we have a doctor's appointment set for tuesday," harry answered his nosy sister's question for summer. summer nodded.
"you'll have to excuse me," anne said, standing from her chair.
harry protested his mum leaving the discussion with a very irritated, "mum!"
anne left the dining room without a word, and robin followed her. tears that she'd been fighting to hold back sprung to summer's eyes at the departure of harry's parents. harry was immediately pulling on summer's arm to get her attention and to calm her down, but all summer could do was stare at the doorway where anne had exited.
"she's just in shock s'all," gemma tried to reason.
summer let a tear fall and snapped her head around to look at harry. "i want to talk to your mum by myself."
harry raised his eyebrows in surprise at her statement. "are you sure you want to-"
"i'm positive."
so, harry led summer to his mother and robin's room where he knocked on the door. robin was quick to open the door. "summer wants to speak with mum."
anne looked up from where she was sitting on her bed on in surprise. robin agreed, letting summer walk past him and walked out with harry. she sat down next to anne on the bed slowly.
"i know what you're thinking," summer said quietly. "that harry's stuck with the kid he shouldn't have been dating in the first place forever, now. i would probably be just as upset and angry if my son had gotten some girl who didn't deserve him pregnant, but i need you to know that i'm so sorry. i'm sorry that i'm selfish and that i kept a guy who's ten times too good for me and that i was stupid enough to get pregnant. i'm so sorry, anne."
anne looked appalled at the young girl beside her. her next words confused summer. "are you completely daft, dear?"
summer looked up from her hands at anne. anne shook her head softly at summer, a small tear rolling down her cheek.
"listen to me, young lady," anne said sternly, "never say that you were stupid enough to get pregnant. a baby is not something to apologize for, it's not something to regret."
summer nodded.
"and i do not think that harry is stuck with a kid he shouldn't have been with in the first place. i think harry found a reason to finally put a ring on your finger. i think that if you could see the way you and harry look at one another, you'd never feel like he was too good for you ever again. we love you here, summer. we love you a bunch and now that you're going to bring a baby into our lives, we'll love you even more."
summer's eyes had long since welled up with tears and they were falling down her cheeks. she leaned forward and hugged anne, thankful for her. they came back to the dining room after a few minutes, anne's arm wrapped lovingly around summer's shoulders. everyone looked up at the two with hopeful eyes as they entered. anne grinned at her family warmly, before looking down at the girl who had her son's heart. "we've decided that planned or not, this baby is going to be the best thing to happen to this family in a long time."
everyone at the table broke out in grins, and harry stood to hug his girlfriend and his mum.
on the car ride home, harry drove while summer sat in the passenger seat. their fingers were laced above the center console.
"harry?" summer said.
"yes?" harry hummed, his eyes still on the road. summer looked over to him.
"i'm madly in love with you, you know that, right?"
harry broke out into a grin. "and you know that you'll never be quite as in love with me as i am with you, right?"
summer rolled her eyes and leaned her head against the window. she knew.
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
the first doctor's appointment had harry all jittery and nervous. summer was reading an article in some gossip magazine calmly, but harry couldn't stop moving. his leg was jiggling up and down and his fingers drumming against the wooden arm rests of the chair he sat in inside the waiting room. summer let out a couple of annoyed sighs at his tapping, but he obviously didn't catch on until she quite literally grabbed his wrist and put her foot over his. harry's head snapped up to face her and she gave him a glare.
"could you please sit still?" she whisper-yelled. harry gave her a sheepish smile and nodded. she released him and went back to her magazine. harry sighed and looked around the waiting room nervously. there were a bunch of pregnant women and husbands, a few kids, and some regular looking girls. he glanced sideways at summer, finding it hard to believe that in only a few months she was going to look like she had a basketball under her shirt at all times.
harry noticed a little model of the female reproduction system on the table next to his chair. he picked it up and examined it closely until summer caught him and hissed his name, causing him to nearly drop it. she gave him a glare.
"what are you doing?" she asked with a slight frown.
"i was just looking," he admitted. "it's there for learning purposes, summer. i'm about to be a dad, i should probably know about these things."
the word dad that had fallen so easily from harry's mouth made summer's heart flutter. harry had to admit that the statement had felt foreign on his tongue, but he liked it. he was going to be a dad.
"do you think we should read those pamphlets while we're waiting?" harry whispered. summer shook her head.
"i'm reading about ashton and mila. we'll pick those up on our way out,"
"miss moore?" a nurse called into the waiting room, and summer and harry shot up. harry quickly grasped onto summer's hand for comfort and reassurance for both of them. nothing felt more right than their fingers intertwined.
they followed the woman in lavender scrubs back into an examination room, where summer sat on the doctor's table and harry on a chair that matched the ones in the waiting room. the nurse, amanda, told them that doctor evans would be right with them.
doctor evans arrived in the room exactly three minutes later, right after harry had gotten done criticizing the wallpaper in the small room, comparing it to something his blind grandfather would've picked out, making summer giggle. harry loved to make summer laugh.
"hi there, miss moore," doctor evans greeted summer, then turned to harry, "and you are?"
"summer's boyfriend, harry styles, ma'm," harry stood, shaking the doctor's hand.
"lovely to meet you," dr. evans smiled warmly at harry. she then turned to summer. "so, you ready to come on back into the other room with me?" summer nodded, giving harry a worried glance.
"can harry not come?"
"no, i'm afraid you're going to have to do this by yourself. we'll come right back in here after the test, though," dr. evans assured her. "we'll be no longer than ten minutes."
harry nodded and stood, giving summer a good luck kiss to her hair line and whispering an "i love you," summer squeezed his middle as he did so, showing her affection back, even though she was a bit scared to be doing anything without harry.
"i'll be right here when ya get back, sweetheart," harry said as they parted ways. eleven minutes later, summer and doctor evans returned. dr. evans carried summer's folder with her as summer climbed back on to the table.
"so, the good news is that your home pregnancy test was correct, you are pregnant. you're six weeks, four days in," doctor evans said, she then began telling them about future appointments and answered their questions about when they'd be able to see the baby and when they'd know the gender and such. thirty minutes later, harry and summer were riding back to their flat, summer with a content feeling of knowing everything flowing within her, and harry with a big grin spread across his face.
"why do you look like you've gone mad?" summer asked, looking over at him with an amused smile.
"because, i keep imagining a little boy with blonde hair like yours but curly like mine and your eyes and cheeks and nose and my dimples and i'm quite happy about it," harry babbled.
"a boy?" summer frowned playfully.
"yep, a little footy player," harry said. summer felt her stomach with her hands, shaking her head softly.
"nope, we got us a girl in here," summer argued. harry frowned, glancing down to the light blue shirt covering her stomach.
"you can't tell!" he protested.
"i can," she laughed.
harry pouted. "well, as long as he or she but probably he is healthy, i'll be happy," harry said. summer nodded.
"ditto," she agreed, rubbing her tummy lovingly. the idea of having a baby didn't feel much like an idea anymore, it was actually happening.

at week sixteen, summer finally had a prominent baby bump. harry was relishing in the fact he could now see the little human growing in his girlfriend's stomach. he was always convincing or asking summer wear tank tops in the house so that he could always see it. she'd been wearing a lot of flowy tops lately, causing harry to pout. he wanted to flaunt his baby, even if they couldn't see it yet.
they had two sonogram pictures, but they'd decided to wait until the birth to find out the gender. harry was still betting on a boy and summer on a girl, like typical families. on a saturday night, summer and harry were lounging around at home instead of out with friends like usual, just because they wanted to spend some time together. summer wore only a sports bra and some shorts, her stomach out for harry to touch and coo over.
he was currently laying with his head on summer's chest and his hand rubbing soothing circles over her stomach while she watched say yes to the dress and snacked on some red twizzlers. (harry bought them on his way home from work, they were her favorite.)
she'd gotten so engrossed in the show, that she hadn't even noticed harry humming to her stomach, but when he started to sing, her eyes shot down to him.
"look at the stars, look how they shine for you, and everything you do, yeah, they were all yellow," harry sang quietly. harry had a great voice, which is why summer always wondered why he was never on the other side of the glass in the studios he worked for. "i came along, i wrote a song for you, and all the things you do, and it was called 'yellow'."
summer's eyes welled up in tears at her boyfriend who continued to sing softly to her tummy. "so then I took my turn, oh what a thing to have done, and it was all yellow. your skin, yeah your skin and bones, turn into something beautiful, you know, you know I love you so, you know I love you so."
tears silently fell down summer's face and harry sang. "i swam across, i jumped across for you, oh what a thing to do. 'cause you were all yellow. i drew a line, i drew a line for you, oh what a thing to do, and it was all yellow. your skin, oh yeah your skin and bones, turn into something beautiful, and you know, for you I'd bleed myself dry, for you I'd bleed myself dry."
summer moved her hand to that it sat atop of harry's, moving across her soft, stretching stomach skin. harry's fingers held hers in between his. "it's true, look how they shine for you, look how they shine for you, look how they shine for, look how they shine for you, look how they shine for you, look how they shine. look at the stars, look how they shine for you, and all the things that you do."
summer sniffled quietly as harry rolled his head around to peer up at her. "hey, don't cry," he chuckled, reaching up and wiping her face with one of his big hands. she hiccuped, laughing pathetically.
"i just love you so much, and i'm so glad i'm having your baby," summer cried. harry laughed reaching up and kissing her, despite the fact that he face was red and puffy and that she felt gross.
"i'm so glad you're having my baby too, sweetheart," he chuckled, rubbing his nose against hers. "i love you."
she pressed their lips together again, feeling more in love with the boy than she ever had.

"harry, niall, zayn, stop it!" summer whined from her spot on the floor of what was formerly harry's home office and was now going to be the baby's nursery. niall and zayn were two of harry's best friends and they were 'helping' paint the nursery. zayn was an artist, so he was painting a mural of noah's ark on the wall, while harry and niall painted the opposite walls light blue and pinkish peach stripes. well, they were attempting to
"i still think the nursery should be painted blue!" harry huffed.
"what happens if we paint the whole thing blue and we have a girl?" summer asked. harry huffed again, not answering her.
"it's not gonna be a girl, sum," niall assured her. "it's a boy. we can all feel it in our bones. he's gonna have the greatest life, too. a bunch of uncles who can teach him to drink and play footy. he's going to live the dream."
"did you just tell me you were going to teach my unborn child to drink?" summer gaped. harry and zayn were laughing their asses off right about now.
just about that time, flo walked through the door and threw a roll of paper towels at niall's head. "it's a girl, dammit," she declared. she and summer high-fived. niall chucked the paper towels back at flo, but she dodged it and flipped him off.
niall and flo were frenemies. they loved to hate each other. while they'd never admit they were both crushing unbelievably hard on one another, everyone in their friend group had money on how long it would be before they were sleeping together, then dating. it was just a matter of time.
"it's a girl, and her name is going to be flo," flo winked at summer. summer and harry both rolled their eyes.
"let's hope it doesn't turn out weird as hell, like you," niall said, earning a nasty glare from flo.
"her name isn't going to be flo," summer said.
"well, what is it going to be then?" flo asked exasperatedly. summer and harry shared a knowing look. they'd picked out two names, one for a boy and one for a girl, but they refused to tell anyone. just about everyone had been trying to bait them into telling the name.
"not telling," harry sing-songed.
"so you're saying that i'm going to have to paint the baby's name on this wall before you come home from the hospital?" zayn groaned. summer nodded.
"'cause you love us!"
zayn groaned again, "i guess i do."

summer and harry sat in the doctors office, patiently awaiting dr. evan's arrival. they were talking about zayn wanting to introduce them to his new girlfriend.
"i don't know, i mean, what if she's like super tiny. i'll feel like a cow," summer said, causing harry to throw his head back. summer was just into her third trimester and she was obviously pregnant. the third trimester had made her very insecure because she was, well, for lack of a better word, big.
"you're pregnant, sum," harry replied, "of course she's going to be smaller than you. you were fit before you got pregnant."
"so i'm not fit now? i thought you said i was doing okay with how much weight i've gained!" summer whimpered. that was another thing. the third trimester had brought upon overly-sensitive mood swings.
"you have!" harry tried to recover. "you're the hottest pregnant girl i've ever seen! i mean, you look like you've got a balloon under your shirt and i still want to shag you every hour of the day."
summer sighed, accepting his attempt at making up for his wrong choice of words. dr. evans joined them then, and harry silently thanked the gods. he didn't want to say something else wrong.
after checking summer's blood pressure and listening to she and the baby's heartbeat, dr. evans started up the sonogram machine. harry immediately perked up at this because it was his absolute favorite part. he loved to watch the baby. summer loved to watch harry watch the baby.
he sat a little straighter, he grinned the whole time and he got this look in his eyes that made her heart pound. he was almost like a giddy little kid, watching his own kid.

summer sat on the couch of she and harry's apartment, eating right out of the tub of rocky road ice cream while watching another great, intelligent episode of keeping up with the kardashians. harry was in their room on the phone with a client when summer got a sharp pain in her lower stomach. "oh my gosh, oww," she whined. not thinking anything of it, she ignored the pain and kept watching the reality television show in front of her. it wasn't until the second pain that she realized what exactly was happening.
"harry!" summer shouted urgently. "harry come in here now!"
harry didn't respond immediately, so she called him a third time, "harry, get the fuck out here! i think i'm in labor!"
the sound of feet pounding against the floor was heard until he was in the living room, panting as if he'd just run a marathon. "you think?" he said. summer glared. harry helped her to her feet, and as if on cue, a pool of fluid fell to the ground below them.
"i know," she clarified. "go get the bag, we prepped for this."
that they did. they'd taken one of those classes recommended by dr. evans. harry grabbed the over-night bag, his keys and wallet, slipped on some shoes and they were out the door. he timed her contractions while she called her parents, then anne. flo was sent a text and told to spread the word.
they were at the hospital quickly and everything was blurred. after being put into a room, and then visited by dr. evans, summer was told that she was ready to deliver. that wasn't true, though and she was put through four more hours of painful labor until she did deliver.
"okay, summer, you ready?" dr. evans asked. she replied with a whimper, squeezing harry's hand. "okay, i want you to push." summer did as told, until she was allowed to breath for a second and then push again. harry was right there coaching her on and letting her squeeze his hand. on the fourth push, she was told she had one more, and after the fifth, long, hard push, she could hear the cry of a baby and the pain was no longer as prominent.
"it's a girl!" someone said and summer tried to smile through her fatigue and tears. harry cut the umbilical cord and brought the baby to summer, grinning like a mad-man.
"she's beautiful," summer cried. "she's perfect."
"our perfect little willa grace," harry said, tears falling down his face too.
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
niall, flo, zayn and his girlfriend emma, harry's family and summer's parents all stood around the hospital bed where summer cradled baby willa and harry cradled summer.
"a fuckin' girl," niall cursed. "i owe flo a hundred quid."
"niall!" flo hissed, smacking him. "the baby!"
"the baby doesn't know what i'm saying," niall shrugged. flo smacked him again.
"get a room, you two," zayn said. both niall and flo glared at him.
"can i hold her?" gemma asked. summer nodded and passed the new born to her. harry stayed with his arm around summer, watching the baby girl look around with big eyes.
"she's perfect," gemma whispered. everyone murmured in agreement.
the baby was passed around until she eventually found her way to her father's arms. everyone left so that summer and harry and willa could rest. harry peered down at the baby in his arms, wrapped in a pink blanket.
"y'know," harry whispered, glancing at summer. "i think i still got my little footy player."
summer laughed. "so you're glad we got a girl too?"
harry nodded, "ecstatic."
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
"harry, make sure she's strapped in good," summer said, peering around to watch harry put their newborn in the car seat. he'd insisted upon helping summer into the front seat and then putting willa in her car seat. it was driving summer mad to not help. "and take some good pictures for the baby book! it's her first car ride!"
"summer, chill out, i've got this," harry murmured. he snapped some quick pictures of the baby and then shut the door lightly, careful not to wake the sleeping baby. he climbed into the driver's seat and started the car. summer grasped his free hand as they pulled away from st. george's episcopal hospital.
the arrived at their flat a few minutes later and harry retrieved the baby while summer got her bag. they rode the elevator up, harry cooing at willa about being home. summer's heart swelled.
when they opened the front door, harry raised the baby carriage in the air and said, "welcome home, willa grace!"
willa said nothing in response of course, because she was a baby, but she was smiling as harry and summer put her down in her crib for the first time.
"i love you more than anything in the world," harry whispered to the baby.
"ditto," summer cooed as they backed out of the room quietly. as soon as the door was softly shut, harry pushed summer up against the wall next to the door, his hands on her hips. she frowned, looking up to speak, but she was cut off. "wha-"
harry's lips pressed onto hers and then he deepened the kiss. she was heaving when he finally pulled away, resting his forehead on hers.
"thank you so much for my little miracle in there," he whispered. summer squeezed her eyes shut and pulled harry close.
"no, thank you for knocking me up."
✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿ ✿
summer opened her eyes to see an empty bed room. she frowned and sat up, obviously confused. willa had been sick with a stomach bug all week and she and harry had been up at all hours of the night with the ill three year old, resulting in the little girl to sleep right between her parents. "willa? harry?" she called.
no answer.
summer rose and walked to the living room, and although cartoons were playing on the tv, no one was watching. she then walked to the kitchen, where she found her husband and child in the kitchen, preparing breakfast. willa stood on a stool, her blonde, curly hair in a pony-tail at the top of her head. summer grinned.
"what's going on?"
harry and willa turned to face summer, both looking surprised. "mummy, we're making you breakfast!" willa whined. "it was supposed to be a suh-prise!"
"oh, sorry, sorry," summer apologized quickly, giggling at the three- year old's pout. she was too cute to not grin at.
"guess who's feeling better?" harry said. willa raised her hand and waved it all around.
"the answer is me, mummy."
summer laughed, "i figured."
"go back to your bed, mummy! we're going to bring the breakfast to you!" willa's mood changed as she remembered what she was doing.
summer nodded and turned on her heel to head back to bed. minutes later, she was joined by harry and willa who brought the bed plate. willa sat on her lap and they fed each other pancakes, while harry sat with the side of his body pressed against summer. willa would climb from lap to lap.
they were the perfect little family, the three of them. willa had more than fulfilled all of summer, harry, and the gang’s expectation. turns out that niall is a sucker for baby girls and willa grace was just what he needed to be pushed to finally make his move on flo. they were also named Godparents.
but summer and harry had a secret that they had yet to tell niall, flo, zayn, and willa, and that was that there was soon to be a fourth member to their family. a boy. looked like harry, niall, and zayn would get to teach harry’s kid to drink and play footy after all.

You walk down the long, narrow hallway to the door marked: VIP; please knock. You trimble. What if they forgot about you? What would you do if you lost the bestfriends (and Harry) you ever had?
You gain your confidence and gently tap the door. Louis answers and shakes your hand. "Oh, hello." he says, cheerily. "You must be the prize winner.... can I ask your name?" You feel like you've been kicked in the stomach; he doesn't remember you.
You wait a second before replying. "Abbey Malley..." his eyes go wide, "'Irish las extrordinare'." He smiles, and looks at you. "Aye me leprechan, me sees you've grown." he hugs you and tackles you to the floor in a swarm of hugs and Louis-love. You giggle and try to push him off.
Soon enough, the rest of the band comes out to see where the shrieks are coming from. Seeing Louis atop of you smiling and laughing, they get the wrong idea.
"Lou, is there something we should know?" Niall says uncertainly.
Louis looks up. He stares at the for a moment and calmly says two words. "Abbey. Malley." Then he tackles you again. The band stands there in shock, but then pounces you to. They keep you firmly on the ground.
Then, Harry comes out. "Lads?"
The boys look up, look at each other, and leave the two of us alone. I stand up and fall a bit, but catch myself. "Harry Styles." I smirk. He gets the hint of my identity and circles me like a hawk. "Abbey, we meet again." he chuckles evilly.
Suddenly, he lunges. "Got you!" he kisses your cheek. "Missed you bud." You look up at him, "Missed you too."
