When one works in certain circles it becomes impossible to not hear some gossip. Certain stories linger and though he’s long since stopped believing in ghost stories there are a few he keeps close to heart. Believing just enough, after all, is the key sometimes to staying alive.

He knows who she is from the papers. But what she is he knows from those stories. And it’s why he gives her presence the due respect it deserves. Even if it’s on the roof of his own apartment building.

Cigarette carefully plucked from his lips, they watch one another for a good long while before he takes another drag. He’s not stupid enough to believe she doesn’t know who he is. He’s just hoping she’s not here because of him.
