‘Make Bigger Ears’ was our group workshop as part of Collective Design School at the Victoria & Albert museum by resident artist Ella Britton. The week long programme consisted of design inspired workshops, classes and discussions run through public submission for London Design Festival 2019 and curated by Britton. Working together with Akvile Terminaite and Michael Tsang (both also MA IED at the RCA), we were interested in trying to encourage listening as a research method.
Prototype-ing listening devices to start with, we eventually laser cut a simple shape that could be folded into a wearable ‘big ear’ that would alter one’s perception of the immediate space through sound. Inside is printed our manifesto that was meant to be read to the wearer by another person. A large scale version of the ears was made in plywood.
