RYDER LYNN is TWENTY-EIGHT years old and A DOCTOR. He is currently SINGLE (divorced), and his endgame is KYDER.

“I don’t really want to be anyone else. I’m happy with who I am.”

Ever since he was young, Ryder had a big heart. It got him into more trouble than it was worth, yet he still pursued in search of “the one” no matter how many times things just never seemed to work out. Girl after girl, Ryder just couldn’t seem to dodge bad luck. That is until he met she who must not be named. Everything just felt…right. Different. He didn’t even care that they fell into the high-school-sweethearts-quarterback-head-cheerleader trope. She was different and the only person that never teased him for being dyslexic or wanting to do more than throw a ball for the rest of his life. Despite his friends and family warning him, he fell fast and hard and ended up eloping with her shortly after graduation. It was hard balancing a relationship and going to school, but they managed to make it work up until he came home and discovered her true intentions: to get a divorce as soon as he completed his residency. Putting it mildly, the heartbreak he experienced when he found out she was just using him was catastrophic to say the least and changed him completely.

A few weeks after the divorce, Ryder found himself at a bar drowning his sorrows in whatever the bartender put in front of him. And then he drowned his sorrows in the woman that approached him and took him back to her place. Having sex was a lot cheaper than getting drunk every night and way easier than getting hurt all the time. It didn’t take long for him to get addicted to this new method of coping.

For years, he carried on his tradition. Sure he was basically a shell of a human at this point, but at least he wasn’t catching feelings of any sort. Of course, life had to throw him Tina Cohen-Chang. With Tina, Ryder had felt something that he hadn’t in a long time. It seemed like it’d been ages since he actually had to put in any effort other than memorizing sob stories to tell other women and if he was being honest, it was a nice change. And something good was coming out of it. Until she saw the ring.

Enlisting the help of the only woman that had been in his life for a considerable amount of time, Ryder was given no choice but to essentially blackmail Kitty into helping him; he was desperate and the shitty part of him figured she owed him for him hiring her in the first place. All he needed was someone he trusted to pull off the role of a divorcee who wouldn’t fall in love him and since the only chick he knew and was close enough with to ask was his secretary, Ryder figured he’d give it a shot. So far, he feels like things are working pretty well. His wallet, however, isn’t a big fan.

For the whirlwind that had become his life as of late, Marley definitely seemed like the most normal thing to happen in it. Was she a total stranger? Sure, but he figured if she was making him feel like being a good person again then it couldn’t be all bad right? He felt pretty weird donating his sperm to someone he’d  met before, but it was his one good deed for all the bad he’d done. If he was making someone’s life better even though he wouldn’t technically be part of it, then no harm no foul.

CONNECTIONS.

KITTY WILDE → Kitty has been a close friend of Ryder’s for a while now, and he’s grateful for her now more than ever. He still isn’t sure how he managed to convince her to go along with his scheme, to pretend to be his soon-to-be ex-wife, but he’s so glad she is. He trusts her more than anyone else and she gets divorce just as much as he does. He can’t imagine being anyone else’s fake husband. Well, ex.

TINA COHEN-CHANG → Tina totally changed Ryder’s mind about moving on. He wasn’t ready, not by a long shot, until he met her and saw how cool she was, and he knew he needed to suck it up or he’d miss out on some great things in life. Unfortunately, the ring complicated things, and Tina is the sole reason for this mess of lies Ryder has gotten himself into. He just prays it works out for him in the end.

MARLEY ROSE → You know, Ryder’s spent a lot of time over the course of his life thinking about how and when he might become a father, and also how he can help people. Marley inadvertently presented him both opportunities at once. A casual acquaintance needed a donor and Ryder was happy to help. Besides, Marley wants to do it on her own for the most part, so Ryder can still deal with his own life stuff.
