Darlene doesn’t love people easily. It’s not something she freely gives out to everyone. In fact, I would argue that there are three people total Darlene can say she has honest to god loved: Elliot, Angela, and Dom. She’s loved them all in different ways. I would say her love for Dom is the most complicated–it’s not necessarily romantic love Darlene feels towards Dom, but she certainly regards Dom as a friend, as a confidant.

One thing that’s consitent though is Darlene’s loyalty towards these three people. We see her run back to Elliot time and time again. When she finds Angela working against her and Elliot, Darlene doesn’t turn her back on her. She seeks out Angela in the middle of her breakdown and sits with her. And even though her relationship with Dom starts off very rocky, we see that Darlene truly cares about Dom and pushes Dom to do what’s best for her.

Darlene has a very interesting way of going about interacting with others. She almost views people as pawns, and so she treats them the way that will best serve her. We see that she doesn’t have the most stable relationships. For example, her relationship with Cisco. How many times did they break up?? More than once I assume, over rather petty things ( remember how she broke up with him because he wouldn’t let her have a turtle?? ) and Darlene ran back to him every time because she needed something from him ( information about the Dark Army, a place to stay, companionship, etc. ). She changes her tune depending on what she needs from Cisco. Flirty girlfriend versus angry ex. We see her change her role with other characters in the series–Cisco is just one example.
