Packers could emerge for Alvin Kamara after recent RB development
Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs was arrested Tuesday following an alleged incident that resulted in multiple charges, according to public records, potentially creating uncertainty around his availability for the 2026 NFL season. Jacobs has denied the allegations through his attorneys, but if the legal process leads to a conviction or NFL discipline, Green Bay could eventually be forced to explore outside options at running back — including a possible call to the New Orleans Saints about Alvin Kamara.
The incident in which Jacobs’ arrest stemmed from took place on Saturday, and public records show the star running back was charged with two counts of felony strangulation/suffocation along with four misdemeanor charges: Battery/Assault, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, and Intimidate Victim/Dissuade Complaints. Bond was set at $1,350, with a mandatory court appearance, as of Tuesday evening.
"Josh vehemently denies the allegations, and this matter is in the early stages of investigation with important evidence that has not yet been made public. We ask for fairness and restraint while the judicial process takes its course," attorneys David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld, and Clarence Duchac said in a statement.
If convicted on the felony charges, Jacobs could face serious legal consequences. Each Class H felony count in Wisconsin is punishable by up to six years in prison, a maximum fine of $10,000, or both. Even if he avoided jail time, a conviction or league finding under the NFL’s personal conduct policy could open the door to significant discipline, potentially leaving Green Bay without its bell-cow running back.
Enter Kamara, who has long been rumored to be on the trade block — and with the Saints signing star running back Travis Etienne Jr. this offseason, Kamara’s departure is more likely than ever. The odds appear to be stacked against him to be on New Orleans’ 2026 opening day roster as he enters his tenth season.
Trading for the Saints’ icon would mean acquiring a cheap, tradable one-year rental for a situation in Green Bay that could become desperately in need of a running back. Now, it’s important to note that the Packers have shown a willingness to lean on their platoon backs in Chris Brooks and MarShawn Lloyd, but if they want to maximize their Super Bowl window behind Jordan Love, acquiring Kamara wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities. A trade for Kamara would likely involve a Day 3 pick or even a swap of Day 3 picks, as the Saints could look to clear out a cluttered running back room.
