i think haymitch views rayne as someone strong, both physically and mentally—especially after she got sober.

rayne didn’t tell him that much about herself before the trilogy started. they may be friends, but rayne kept so many informations about herself to… well, herself. they may be very close, but rayne didn’t really tell much about herself before the 75th hunger games or their time in district 13. but there has always been some unspoken stuff between them, considering just how much time they’ve spent together.

i think he also views her as a very secretive person too sometimes. between rayne and haymitch, i think haymitch is more willing to open up. rayne may have healed, but it doesn’t mean that she’ll open up that quick. it took haymitch some weeks to know only her birthday… which is a bit weird at first, since althea, who’s from the capitol—basically knew nearly everything about rayne. but if we compare how much time rayne have spent with althea and how much time rayne have spent with haymitch, it’s obvious that she has spent more time with althea. i think the time that they’ve spent together is one of the reasons why rayne is more willing to open up with althea. and it’s not like rayne could just tell haymitch abt her feelings for him when she hasn’t even told him about floyd.

i think one of the reasons why rayne didn’t tell haymitch that much about herself at first was possibly due to her being a bit afraid that she might burden him. besides, she’s not exactly the best at dealing with her own feelings for him (and she hasn’t even told him about floyd). during her time in district 13, rayne probably had a hard time dealing with her own feelings and emotions for haymitch, because they spent more and more time together, and it really was the time where she was forced to deal with her own feelings after running away from them for so long.
