I'm glad you're interested in the Halui, the Rayfolk!

This is an old test sketch of what they would probably look like. Despite being able to breathe on the surface, unlike sharks, the rays remained their civilizations in the depths of the sea, so they didn't develop legs, being more like “merfolk”.

Their culture hasn't kept up with the technological innovation coming from the surface of the sea either, despite having access to technological devices adapted to the sea, such as underwater radios and computers, they still have a very traditional culture. They also only communicate by “aquapathy”, a type of communication that only works in water. It's a language that can be learned, but it can be difficult! Hammerhead sharks have an easier time learning the Halui language.

Also did the chimaeras also develop a culture?

The Halui's aquapathy is still a superficial idea that I haven't delved into in detail, I was inspired by a recent piece of knowledge I learned:

“The manta ray has the largest brain of any fish, and the highest brain-to-body mass ratio, being able to even recognize itself in the mirror.”

So in an imaginary future evolution, they have developed some kind of communication similar to “telepathy” that uses electrical impulses that can be picked up by the ampoules, it would make sense hehe

In this world, hammerhead sharks have the most developed senses among other sharks, mainly related to the ampullae of lorenzini. It's very common for them to have some kind of peculiar synesthesia and to notice a sensory reality that is imperceptible to others. Roberto has some secrets about this hehe

There's probably a Halui clan that has Torpediniform as an ancestor, but I haven't thought of anything yet. In this story, not all Elasmobranchs developed culture for some obscure reason related to the past that is too complex to explain at the moment.
