As a Megadeth fan, I've always felt a deep connection to Vic Rattlehead for reasons I cant name. I never understood the hype around mascots until this guy came along.
I'm also an iron maiden fan, but never felt this sort of belonging with Eddie, despite agreeing with and loving what he represents. Watching the new iron maiden documentary, I saw people talking about Eddie how I feel about Vic: just this immediate connection that made the music even better somehow; this symbol that you identify with.
despite this, I'd never actually looked far into Vic's meaning or origin or anything like that.
Recently, realizing I'd never read much about him, I went on a deep dive. its safe to say that me relating to and identifying with this mascot was not for nothing. now, with full context and understanding about him, what he represents, and how he's evolved, I deeply deeply stand with what he represents.
and I feel prouder to say that I'm not only a Megadeth fan, but specifically a Vic Rattlehead fan.

Pretty much Vic Rattlehead represents the saying "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" hence his eyes, ears, and mouth being permanently covered. This was meant to seem like a cruel experiment to keep him from speaking, seeing, or hearing about difficult topics.
He was created by Dave Mustaine, who was sketching something for a tattoo but it ended up becoming the mascot for Megadeth, the original tattoo design seen on their first album cover.
He was drawn with his arms placed in an X behind him as well as his bones arranged in a cross. this represented religious cruelty, since Dave Mustaine stood very strongly against corruption in organized religion at the time.
his first name is short for "victim". a victim of cruelty, censorship, religious confinement, political suppression, social pressure, and the experiment that got rid of three of his senses.
his last name, less serious, is a nod to what Dave's mom used to say to him about headbanging: that his brain would rattle around in his skull if he kept it up.
overall, Vic represents: censorship and suppression of the truth (specifically religions, institutions, or authorities preventing people from seeing, speaking, or hearing the truth freely), political corruption and manipulation, social decay (the loss of individual freedom and critical thinking), death and mortality, and corruption in religion.
but the main idea: he is a symbol of being denied the ability to perceive, discuss, or challenge uncomfortable truths.
