BRAZIL: The National Federation of Domestic Workers (FENATRAD), with the support of the IDWF held, from Friday to Sunday (23, 24 and 25), the National Workshop of the Federation.

The event aimed to define new guidelines for the category. The meeting took place at the Florestã Fernandes National School (MST), in the city of Guararema (SP) and was supported by Solidarity Centre.

BANGLADESH: "We want Bangladesh to ratify the ILO Convention 189 immediately," National Domestic Women Workers Union (NDWWU) General Secretary Murshida Akter said, adding that domestic workers would not leave the streets unless the government takes action in this regard.

IDWF General Secretary Elizabeth Tang informed that they were going to organize its 2nd congress very soon and wished that domestic workers in Bangladesh would push the government to enact a law for them before the congress.

KENYA: "I am a domestic worker! I am a worker!"

Chanting in front of the Parliament, domestic workers of our affiliate, Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA), demonstrated on Feb 21 for ratification of ILO C189 with the support from Solidarity Center.

RESOURCES: A new research brief by the ILO on implementation of international labour standards for domestic workers and one of the key findings is:

"There remain many challenges in making decent work a reality for all domestic workers, but member States are implementing innovative and effective measures to ensure that domestic workers’ fundamental rights are respected. These measures address the specific characteristics of domestic work, and include effective labour inspection, industry-specific campaigns to raise awareness on the rights of domestic workers, accessible and affordable legal aid for all domestic workers."
