Rat Trapped
@agrabahsheadguard
“Oh, come on! Seriously?” Alanna raced through the marketplace like a bat out of Jahannam, the Captain of the Guard hot on her tail. She ducked and weaved through people and streets, trying to find an alleyway or a ladder to a rooftop that would let her get away, but she just couldn’t shake him.
“It’s just an apple! And not even a good one!” she yelled over her shoulder. “It wasn’t going to get sold. Farouk would’ve thrown it in the trash heap at the end of the day, anyway! Can’t you just let me have it?”
She hadn’t eaten anything all day. The bruised, week-old apple would be the first bite she’d had since sundown last night, if she could just make her escape and get home to her hovel. But Razoul was like a jackal with a rat. He just wouldn’t let her be.
She bolted around a corner and stopped dead in her tracks.
“Aw, camel dung!”
It was a dead end. And no ladder to the rooftops in sight.
She was in trouble.
