#169: MODESTY - “thank you for smoking”

i was looking forward to listening to this one. MODESTY from sweden are playing emo-rock like you know it from the mid-90s, although the two songs were released not until 1999. rasmus kellerman aka TIGER LOU was playing drums in this band. i can’t remember at which show i bought this 7″, but for sure it was at the merch table of another swedish band. when BOY OMEGA were staying at my place several years later, someone from the band found the record in my collection and really was surprised that it made it to austria. 

especially “the wake” is a fantastic song (although the main riff reminds me a lot of “come with me” by PUFF DADDY feat. JIMMY PAGE). “start today” on the b-side is good too. they sound consists not just out of nice emo-tunes - the riffs get pretty harsh inbetween. 

if the website of their label (it was the very first release of black star foundation) is still correct there are some copies left of this release and you can get it for 1 € via their webshop. it’s definitely worth it and one of the best records i bought back then.
