///DESIGNATION: HAMMERHEAD Mk XX ////ROLE: MOBILE WEAPONS PLATFORM ////NOTES: The Hammerhead Mk XX provides mobile heavy weapon support to mercenary squads. The hardpoint on its back mounts a number of weapons, and the built in jump jets means it will always be in position. Advanced targeting sensors ignore dust, darkness, and other visibility interferences and computer interface jacks allow it to hack security systems. ////BUILD NOTES: Despite being for the Rogue Stars skirmish game, this is just the Hammerhead I designed for Mobile Frame Zero. When I started putting together my NEXO Knights I saw I had a lot of blue and light grey pieces and wondered if I had enough to build a Hammerhead. I did. That little 1x1 plate with the lion insignia and the kite shield in blue sealed the deal. I really like how this game out. I still have to make jump jet nozzles for the "wings" on the side of the head and design a weapon. I've paid for a heavy blaster rifle in the game, and need to model something appropriately big.
Some Gallantour, despite their wealth, must rely on sponsorships to maintain their knight errant adventurism lifestyles. For these pilots its more than their pride or status on the line if they lose a battle or campaign; more than one 7th son has been stranded in colonial space, unable to afford to escape through the local transit gate because their sponsors pulled out after a bad PR event.
Umbral'la, HVA for the Krewstara Consortium.
Umbral'la (officially designated Summerall Mining Station No1 though practically no one calls it as such) is the golden goose for the small megacorp, a unique mining and refinery station that provided the bulk of their profits. Rather than directly mining the gas giant Summerall that the station orbited, Umbralla instead siphond metastable liquid metallic hydrogen (aka MLMH, aka 'hydrogra') churned from the planet's depths by massive storms and carried along by the atmosphere as it 'rained' outward into space via hydrodynamic escape. This unique mechanism means Krewstara could mine hydrogra for a fraction of the cost other megacorps either mine it from other gas giants or produce in labs. This process was possible as Summerall was a 'hot Jupiter' or a gas giant that either formed or migrated relatively close to a star--in this case Noheh B. As the heat and solar winds of the star 'blew' the planet's atmo directly away, Umbralla was positioned at the Noheh B-Summerall L2 Lagrange point where it balanced protection from the worst effects of both the star (high UV rays, radiation, solar flares, etc) and the planet (mostly the magnetic field) with maximizing its hydrogra collection rate.
When Krewstara bought the colony rights to the Noheh B half of the Noheh AB system from Dramstellar, it was seen as something of a foolish decision. Afterall, it was on average a three year trip from the inner Noheh B system to the transit gate orbiting Noheh A, and while the secondary system was flush with potential, Dramstellar had done little thus far to establish infrastructure beyond settling two Jovian terraformers on the nearth ('near' Earth) Noheh B4. The subsystem was always seen as a long term investment to get pursued later, and the last thing a fresh young megacorp looking to break into the colony game should set their eyes on. That was until Krewstara did the unthinkable, and parked a second transit gate in the system around Noheh B.
Krewstara came through the gate with a plan and ready to action it. They captured two trojans from Summerall L5, relatively small but rich in useful metals, and strung them together like beads on a string to form the core of what would be come to be known as Umbral'la. Labor frames furiously mined the asteroids around the clock to carve out protected living and work spaces within, and began slowly building outward, establishing the superstructure for the station using the very materials they mined out. Slowly, carefully the station took form, and was gently spun along the long axis to create an appreciative percentage of artificial gravity. Though it pointed down the local gravity well, what would nevertheless become known as the 'top' of the station was painstakingly ablated, stretching out as the station spun to form the backbone of the shield that would protect the majority of the station from the worst the star and planet could throw at it. Finally, an ancient but functional research ship, designed to operate frighteningly close to various highly dangerous stellar objects, was mounted over a reinforced shield, and converted into an advanced command and control module for the mining effort.
The exact specifics of how the station siphoned hydrogra was a closely guarded trade secret, but in essence it created an artificial field that operated like a combination funnel-screen, pulling in the runaway atmo and separating the desired elements to be safely processed and stored. The actual refineries and storage were located down shield (the mining occurred up shield) in and around the remains of the top asteroid both conveniently close and well protected by the shield itself.
The core cylinder between the asteroid sections was actually mostly empty space, primarily filled with the spine of the station and the two primary transport channels, though the rest of the cylinder would slowly fill with warehouses and long term storage overtime earning the moniker 'The Mess'.
The warehouses and storage would be built on the inside of the cylinder's skin rather than extending out from either asteroid like the spine and channels, creating an impromptu miniature imitation of living in an O'Neill Cylinder. Though The Mess was never intended to be permanently habitable, as the stations population slowly grew hesitant attempts were made to make the modules closest to the asteroids into proper living spaces, but the plan never fully took off. What little that passes for the station's tramp population and criminal enterprises however made do.
Finally, the 'bottom' asteroid maintained its overall shape and appearance though it was just as thoroughly tunneled and hollowed as the first, and served as the primary habitat and live support area of the station, with a small but respectable docking ring extending just below it for ship access. The station didn't have anywhere near the space to accommodate insitu farming, though the O2 farm did provide some minimal support. Early on in the station's development there was talk of establishing rings around the base of the station for high G spin for improved living conditions as well as expanded food production, but due to a combination of factors it never panned out.
Leveling up my Lego Stud.io knowledge, playing with lighting and transparency. Even did a snippet during a render to capture some of the dirty noise effect.

Building a collection of Lego ranged weapons for playing Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack; most would work for minifigures too. Tried to create a simplified but robust list of options using common/cheap bricks that new comers could copy/iterate on. In theory you could outfit any mobile frame squad/company with all the weapons shown and fill any combination of direct/indirect/SSRs/split weapons (including melee if you use an underslung chainsaw a la Gears of War lancer or the 'fusion edge'-definitely-not-a-lightsaber). Boomers and shortys are pretty straightforward. Mechanically there's no difference between the Colsten and Maxters, both filling the direct range variations. Flavor wise Colstens tend to be single shot or 3 round burst with smaller magazines and little in the way to inherently manage heat (save the finned version), while the Maxters tend to be burst or full auto with drum magazines and water cooled barrels (making them more ideal for vacuum combat). Originally the Maxter was going to be a gatling gun, might double back around to that flavor wise. The Colsten is the mobile frame evolution of the WW2 Sten and Polsten. They were originally a stop gap for UMFL/Colonial Espatiers, but has been mostly adapted by Free Colony Cells while better supported UMFL/CE have moved on to The MRS. The Maxter on the other hand is the preferred space combat option over the Colsten. Although the Maxter also has a longer/safer usage time in space than The MRS, the latter is formed from superior alloys that absorb vastly more heat before being impacted, and is usually preferred for the increased reliability and optional loadouts.
Lego Jegan and Stark Jegan, from Gundam: Char's Counterattack and Gundam Unicorn, scaled for playing Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack. Very pleased there's enough articulation at this scale to display the Stark Jegan with the source accurate underarm bazooka.
On a 'realistic/reasonable' weaponry kick for Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack lately. Based on the Polsten/Sten WW2 era guns, the Colonial Espatier use a Colsten rifle base as their primary armament. Enough variations of this simple and inexpensive weapon exist to fill most battlefield roles. Note the overheated barrel in the & the spare barrels/ammo for the Colsten wielded by the Ruschia.
A variant of the Colsten rifle, the Colsten Maxter features a housing around the barrel containing a water based coolant system. This is particularly useful in space based combat. Colsten Maxters tend to use drum magazines as their barrels can handle higher fire rates than their air cooled predecessors. The Full Maxter is a scaled up chain fed Colsten galting gun also cooled by water. Due to the movement of the water and spinning of the interior barrels, the Full Maxter requires a stable firing position for proper accuracy, and is popular under gravity. For funsies, I threw in a break barrel grenade launcher as well. The 1x2 plate with top clip and 1x1 round plate with handle is one of my favorite brick combos, and its always nice to find another use for it!
