On Woke Privilege.
Look, I get that weāre living in this age of changing paradigms and great enlightenment, and thatās fantastic.Ā But can we not tear down people for not being perfectly up to date with all that?Ā Ā Not everyone has the same opportunities to learn and figure things out.Ā Not everyone has a cosmopolitan exposure to the world and its issues.Ā Ā Can we please look at a personās intentions and willingness to learn and change, and not their mistakes, when judging them? We donāt need to be calling little old grannies who worked hard their entire lives to be good parents and decent people in general -garbage- because maybe they donāt understand concepts about gender that didnāt exist in their consciousness until you started telling them about it.Ā Ā We donāt need to label poor people who are struggling to make ends meetĀ āuncaringā orĀ āapologistsā if they donāt seem to care about problems in countries theyāve barely heard of.Ā Maybe they havenāt had the time or energy to sit around reading Reddit and Tumblr outrage posts. Let people catch up at their own pace.Ā As long as theyāre trying to be better, thatās what really matters.Ā And please, consider - beingĀ āwokeā is a product of privilege.Ā The privilege of having access to information and the free time to get invested in things outside your personal sphere.
