iâm totally all for artists taking their time and what not, but hyping people up when youâre not going to follow through is a really fucked up tease. nothing monumental has come out recently and everyones aware of it, the top ten songs on itunes are all flops. so promises of a long awaited album being released was just what we as consumers needed. the music industry needs to get off its self created high horse. no one needs year long promotions. if we want it, weâll buy it. if we donât, we wonât. shoving an album title in our faces wonât change anything. getting an album released requires so many unnecessary obstacles because of producers and public relations and what not. those type of delays are bogus. that being said, creativity canât be fabricated. artists shouldnât be rushed into making albums just so they can release something annually. for some artists it works, like rihanna. for some it just doesnât. however if an album is done, if it is completely finished and the sole reason itâs not being released is publicity/promotion, thatâs a problem. and in all honesty i donât even like frank oceanâs music, iâve never heard any of it, but a lot of people love him. and its the same situation with a lot of other artists (sky ferreira, lorde, etc). all of these artists have one thing in common and thatâs taking their time to create something they truly love. i, as well as everyone else, should be all for that. however, if this isnât just frank ocean not being finished, (which i canât imagine that being the case considering the teasers) itâs absurd. even if he does just need more time to finish it, he should have shut down the rumored release date considering this one was credible since it was claimed to be an apple music exclusive. but the most important thing to take away from all of this is that 99% of the time it's not the artists fault. it's the people above them.
