This is my first atempt at a Totnt au. It has Modern!Human!Rang in it, so that means he and Yeon aren't half brothers in this. Can't promise that they'll be in character but I hope you like it~
(floofywolfer, I know you like Rang so I hope you like this~)
Rang always had an odd affinity with foxes.
Foxes, be it they were wild or domesticated, loved Rang.
Rang didn't mind, as it gave him many fluffy friends as a child growing up.
But there were times where his affinity got him in trouble with supersitious people.
He couldn't count the amount of times he was called less than human, or even a gumiho in disgused, as child growing up in his home town.
When he was old enough, he moved away, leaving the toxic town behind him.
To his delight, the new town he moved to had a fox rescue!
He signed up not long after settling in and quickly became one of the best workers at the rescue!
It might because of his affinity, as every fox he helped seemed to immediately become docile whenever he handled them.
Human!Yu-ri, one of Rang's closest friends at the rescue, calls him the 'Fox Whisperer'.
Rang just thinks she's being dramatic.
To Rang's annoyance, his new nickname ends up sticking.
Life went on normally for Rang at the rescue, but one day, they get a odd call.
A young man was calling the rescue to come get a fox that his grandfather shot, saying the old man claimed it wasn't just a fox, but a real life gumiho, and that he needed to kill it now!
Seeing how this was a serious situtation, Rang, along with H!Yuri and the rest of the rescue, jumps into action. They had a fox to save!
When they arrived, The young man that called them was desperately trying to calm down his grandfather, as the old man kept shouting about needing to kill the 'gumiho'!
Rang just huffs, glaring at the old man as he passes. Old bastard...
Judging by the blood stains on the ground, the fox bolted into the woods, so Rang and the rest of the group seperates to widen the search effort.
Rang ends up finding it first. Or well, it finds him first.
Rang had just turned a corner and was about to go down a new path when something jumps out the bushes, pinning Rang to the ground and snarls into his face.
The fox was huge. It's fur, which at one point was probably a pretty amber color, was dirty and covered in blood gushing out it's wound.
Rang was terrified, but he knew it wasn't the foxes fault. It was hurt. It was scared. He had to help it!
Before he could formulate a plan to get the fox off of him, it suddenly slumps on top of him.
To Rang's relief, it wasn't dead. Just passed out because of blood lost.
Rang, with some difficuilty, manages to carry the fox back to the car, ignoring the shrill sounds of the old man screaming that he needed finished what he started.
When Rang sees that no one was looking, he flips the old man off, giving him an ugly sneer.
The fox, a male as Rang learned, was quickly rushed back to the rescue, where hopefully it could get the help it desperately needed.
Flash forward a few weeks later, and the same fox that gave Rang the scare of his life, was now a purring pile of fluffy mush on Rang's lap.
H!Yu-ri just says this is proof that Rang was a true "Fox Whisperer" as no one, and I mean no one at the rescue can even get near the huge fox without making it aggitated.
Rang just has to rub the fox's big fluffy ears and the big guy just melts into the human's hands.
Rang was honestly sad to see that it was time to release the huge fox, and it seemed he wasn't the only one, as the big fox whines as they let him out in a new area, where he hopefully won't run into anymore crazy old men.
Rang gave the big fox one last head pat before heading back to the car and driving off, leaving the fox behind...
A few days later, and Rang still misses the big fox.
H!Yu-ri, noticing how Rang seemed off, offered to take him out for drinks, hoping that it would cheer him up somehow.
The place they went to was loud, but after a few drinks, Rang felt himself start to relax.
H!Yu-ri lets out an excited squeak suddenly, making Rang turn to her in confustion.
She tells him that there was apparently a guy staring at Rang, and that he was really handsome.
There was a guy staring at Rang, and he was really handsome...
And he was walking over to their table!!!
Freak out, Rang turns to H!Yu-ri for answers, but she wasn't there anymore!
The man slides into the empty seat beside Rang, and oh god, he was even more handsome up close!!!
The man introduces himself as Yeon, and after a few moments, Rang realizes this man was actually flirting with him.
But Rang schooled his features, making sure he wasn't showing the man that he was freaking out on the inside, and with a smirk, started flirting as well.
And while they flirted, Rang couldn't help but feel that this 'Yeon' was familar somehow...
It wasn't his face that felt familar, as Rang was pretty sure if he'd remember a man as handsome as Yeon. No... It was Yeon's eyes that felt familar...
Yeon's eyes... they reminded Rang of the fox he saved!
