listen up everybody i have a new au and it involves a different version of a henclair variant that's already made a few rounds here...
rangerprince, ranger lucas x prince dustin <3
okok i know it's not super personal to THEM, it's just the ranger and prince aspects, BUT i am 1) open to suggestions and 2) absolutely in love with the fic so far: core four/party childhood friends that dustin leaves at 12 years old when his mom marries a king (i don't care that this is giving sofia the first. literally zero fucks at all) and moves far far away. the king's teenage son, steve, is the crown prince and is still grieving his mother's death from a year prior, so they don't exactly get along right away. but ultimately some great royalbard (ish) bonding!!
AND THEN seven (iykyk) years pass and dustin still grieves the promise he made to lucas to come find him then. after seven years, they figured it would be safe to reunite, given Mysterious Plot Circumstances i will not reveal yet, but on dustin's way out...
well, everybody dies. NOT REALLY. but dustin doesn't know that. cue this 7 year anniversary leading to some new information via spy network master edmund munson (hehe) and some Odd Things happening to dustin's memory. hmmm much to consider. he starts doubting what he remembers and sets off to find his best friends, not expecting to find them, but maybe some answers...
and when he does actually find them, much to everyone's surprise (they'd been looking, too <3), things are very very different and still, somehow, the same. the party (now expanded to include max and jane!) must go on plot Journeys and Shenanigans to find the truth restore balance yada yada yada (i started writing this less than 48 hours ago pls forgive the lack of info).
and henclair reconnects, reckoning with the vast differences in their lives, priorities, dustin's love of steve if not the castle/monarchy itself that he's bound by duty to, and having to make ✨choices✨
