Just read a Truman show/SPN crossover which mostly recast Truman as Dean. It was entertaining but it got me thinking about an evil version where, instead of living a feel-good sitcom life like in the Truman Show, Sam and Dean instead live their shitty difficult lonely lives (minus the supernatural elements) as catharsis and tear jerker for the audience, all basked in heavy moralistic messaging.
Every possible scary, war-on-drugs, protect-the-kids storyline, all set in Lawrence, Kansas and happening to either Sam or Dean. A stranger danger kidnapping plot. Sam gets a tightly controlled drug-habit arc. The dangers of loose morality. Heavy-handed PSAs, as demonstrated by the consequences on the two real unwitting protagonists. Once Dean grows up and turns out queer he's saddled with the most vile "gay people = groomers and pedophiles" storylines to scare him back in the closet. Supporters of the show consider them as necessary scapegoats to teach the nation about the dangers of drugs, homeless people and STDs.
They have a few comfort characters (Jody, Donna and the likes) to give the boys a bit of a reprieve and to showcase the virtues of marriage and familial duty. The boys are tied to Lawrence to care for their mother adled who is adled with every possible ailments. Anyway you get the gist, the show's implicit morals but spelled out in even more exagerrated, reality TV fashion, yadda yadda
