Understanding Y99: Online Chat Platform Overview
Y99 is an online chat platform where users can connect with random strangers, make new friends, engage in group conversations, and participate in various activities like games. It shares similarities with classic chat rooms from the early internet era, such as Omegle. To access its features, users must sign up and verify their accounts.
MONITOR • Last exhibition of year at the Air Gallery in Manchester. Ironically titled like the Cretan Contemporary Art Festival @monitor_fest #RandomConnections . Monitor is an exhibition that explores the relationship between ourselves and technology. The works will seek to investigate the impact technology has on our everyday lives; how it can aid us to live a more efficient, convenient life, and conversely affect our mental and physical health. We begin to rely on our devices, often to function. Our society is dominated by technological advancements; technology is everywhere from our phones to the cars we drive – they makes our lives easier and more comfortable, but what is the cost? Are we losing an fundamental part of what makes us human as our decision making is being influenced by and often replaced by machines? . Social media has become an integral part of our lives. It is a tool, a means to stay in contact with friends, a forum in which we share aspects of our everyday lives. Human interaction is supplemented by social media – but is it some way being replaced? Adverts are tailored towards our spending habits, our actions online recorded and monitored. Where our lives were once private, databases now exist. Scrolling social media has become a normal daily action that ironically enables us to spend more time monitoring other people’s lives than living our own. . Monitor @info.airgallery 7-22 Dec. Conquered a phobia today (one of many few), albeit with some assistance. Oh the effort! Torturous minutes of careful rationalising, soothing, chiding, and courage.
Score.
Oh but the anxiety it used to cause (and still does)! It’s a strange thing really, not entirely claustrophobic, instead, a selective form of claustrophobia. To think, I have struggled with ‘it’ for many years, and preyed right into its tentacles. Not today. Today was different. Today, I confronted, I visualised the outcome of performing said ‘action’ that was so ostensibly hell-raising and anxiety-provoking.
'Three seconds of courage’. Well, took a little longer than three seconds, but I found it. I hugged courage. Hugged it tight.
Inspiring person for today, would be my very kind and beautiful neighbour on my flight back to L-town. From usual pleasantries to philosophical debates, psychology, men, children, religion, politics, racism, power struggles, female 'bitchiness', adolescent recklessness, bullying, benevolence, philanthropy and sociological structures. Most importantly, FORGIVENESS.
Learn to forgive.
Similar experiences, years in between.
She, 19. I, 20. She, 49. I, 25.
Particularly interesting was the exchanged discourse on Sri Lankan society and the interesting concept of an ‘illusion/lie’ of institutions or systems the majority subscribe to. Carl Jung’s delineation of the individual unconscious and collective unconscious took host. Seemed pretty relevant and it made sense. Always liked Jung’s paradigms of the mind.
She hugged me, no, she embraced me and kissed me on my cheek as we bid farewell to one another.
Stop living in the past. That’s what memories are for.
Memories need not be your reality. But simply, a place in time you frequent, on occasion, to remind you of where you have been and where you are now.
Let go...
