Hey so I would really like to talk about that new light saber design. Because I honestly really like the idea of it, I just think that in execution it did not look very good. I have more to say but I am out of characters.
Oh, I agree completely. The concept is interesting, the design is… less than perfect. But I justify it (in my mind, at least) by considering:
1) this weapon is probably based on a zweihander or claymore, and thus isn’t really supposed to *look* good, so long as it does its job.
2) this weapon is probably a prototype, or at least unique in the SW universe. It kind of looks like they just glued three lightsabers together, lowered the intensity on two of them, and called it a finished product. So… prototype.
3) We’ve seen approximately 0.8 seconds of it on screen, maybe it’ll look better in other shots.
4) As the last guy on that post pointed out: it’s made of light, there’s no need for special counter balances or whatever. The sword is 100% practical, 0% beautiful. Maybe the character who is holding it believes in efficiency over style. Which is a very Sith belief, if you ask me.
5) I’m willing to accept that it’s very possible that a large part of my dislike for this weapon’s design comes from its newness. Nerds don’t like change, and with the Disney takeover of the series, I think we’re all a little on edge about any changes to, well… anything. But then I remember that the Sith have a history of weird-as-fuck lightsabers: Darth Maul’s twin-bladed weapon was just as dangerous to himself as it was to the enemy, and let’s face it, Count Dooku’s saber was rather… flaccid. Not to mention, if we can tolerate (and even praise) Mace Windu’s BMF insignia… I dunno, I’m willing to give this new one a chance.
I’m not saying that we disagree or anything! I’m just using your message so I can get my own thoughts out. Forgive me. :p
