I’ve already hit the level cap for Final Fantasy XIV, just some personal thoughts that I would like to pen down.
Even though the game has been out for a few years now and has advanced to it’s recent Stormblood patch, new players are never left behind in the game. Interestingly, not only is there a mentor system, but the game has a level sync system in raid finders such that even a level 70 can run dungeons with low level players without any sort of penalty infringing on either individual (if anything, the game rewards bonus EXP and gil for helping out).
Leveling is smooth and generous, so is the gil (currency) and gearing up for equipment. If you have friends in-game, naturally, it gets even faster and easier of course. All classes can basically be unlocked on a single character, which saves less grief of rerolling or gear farming.
If you want to take a break from grinding, rather than moving away from the game, the game itself offers you relaxing alternatives in the form of mini-games, crafting as well as the overall pleasing aesthetics and music.
And of course, my guilty pleasure in this game are housing and skins. The combinations are endless, and for skins, you can skin the same skin on your present or future gear endlessly (while only utilizing a catalyst item) whereas for most games, it’s usually a one-time use.
The “downside” of course, the game is P2P. But that’s really another argument aside for cheapskates. In all, I think I’ve only touched upon the tip of the iceberg, my current post doesn’t do the entire game enough justice.
Looking back, Aion is slowly losing it’s appeal. I honestly don’t know how long more I can hang on to that game.
