Mat and Min were the final people to go through Rand’s Gateway back to Cairhien, before Rand gingerly stepped through himself, closing the Gateway behind him.
He couldn’t quite bring himself to let go of the One Power, even though he was growing tired from holding the Gateway open so long. He hadn’t been able to keep himself counting everyone as they had gone through either — half of his Maiden and Asha’man guards had leapt through first, to clear the hallways for everyone else, and then Moiraine and Lan had led the Kin through, over a hundred strong, with their carts full of ter’angreal for Aviendha to study, young Amaeri with the rest of the Tuatha’an children, and then the other half of Rand’s guard, leaving Rand himself for the last, as he had to be.
Now that he was in Cairhien, after avoiding it for more than a month, there would be so much work to do.
The thought was too exhausting to hold in his mind for long, so he tucked it away as best he could.
