Okay so I forgot to say, I did get a bike in the end.
I was looking for a mountain bike with suspension and stuff and ended up with something completely different.
I got a 2nd hand Raleigh Pioneer Trail. She's lovely and most importantly...the maximum rider weight is 120kg (whereas I've noticed for most bikes it's 100kg)
I usually clock in at 118kg so I'm at the top end but as long as I don't go thumping down curbs hopefully I won't blow the tyres or snap the spokes.
Anyway on the day I got the bike I took her to the park and I was just...so damn disheartened.
It was HARD. like literally after 20 seconds I was out of chuff and I had to stop every 20 meters or so because my knees burned so bad.
I wanted to cry yknow? Like I spent money I really shouldn't be spending on this bike and I so desperately want to be able to cycle about with my nephews but it was so damn hard.
However, I'm nothing if not a stubborn bastard so I've been taking her out every morning at like 7am (before the park gets busy and I have less risk of running into someone)
And day by day it has gotten a little easier, my legs can peddle for longer, my breathing is steadier (I take my inhaler just in case cause that first day I really thought I was gonna die).
There is this tiny slope near the rose gardens I can now peddle up which killed me on days 2&3.
Then yesterday I managed a few good loops of the park, sure I stopped occasionally but I mostly cycled it.
So today I thought I would push myself.
I cycled up to a supermarket 1.6 miles away (I didn't go inside) and then cycled the 1.6 miles back, stopping only to cross over roads and twice to have a sip of water.
So I cycled 3.2 miles and I'm very damn proud.
And it turns out I've lost 4kg over the week.
I've named my bike Macy and she's lovely.
