We lost one more talented music director. His real name was Vijay Patil. Not many of you know this name because on the screen his name was Raam Laxman. When my friend informed me about his sad demise, I was shocked. He took his last breathe on Saturday at the age of 78.I remembered wonderful time we spend with him. It was year 1994.The film was" Hum Aapke Hai Koun. "All songs were recorded at Bombay Lab, Dadar. Arranger was Uttamsingh. Uttamsing was his permanent arranger. We were booked for nearly one month. Specially background music lasted for many days, daily one and half shift. That means we would be in studio from 9-30 am to 8-30 pm. This created a special bond between musicians, arrangers and music director. All songs of the film were a hit. He got filmfare award for this film. This film broke records by getting 7 awards. Best music, best lyrics and best singer. Bal Subramaniyam was his favorite. His other film 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' too was popular. His last film with Rajashree was "Hum Saath Saath Hai"Very few people know that Raam Laxman were two partners. Ram's real name was Surendar but he died at early age after signing their first time "Agent Vinod" butVijay decided to retain the name. Actually this name was given to them by marathi film producer and comedian Dada Kondke who gave them first break in film "Pandu Havaldar". His all other movies also were signed by Raam Laxman. His other song from film " Humse Badhkar Koun" "Deva re deva, ganpati deva" was very popular. He was from a middle class family. A very simple man. a good composer. He started his career by playing accordion in local orchestra. Later he started his own group. Music of Pandu Hawaldar was very popular. After that he never looked back. Slowly slowly he established himself.Only one thing I did not like about him and that was his habit of using, Masheri (a kind of tobacco) He used to apply it on tooth brush all the time. Just imagine a person using tooth brush in front of everybody in studio. One film he signed with Dev Anand. I don't remember the name of movie. Even In front of Devsahab he used masheri. We tried to reason with him but no use. We were surprised to see Dev Anand's energy. During background music he would arrive correct on dot at 9- 30 and remain till 8- 30 till the end of shift. Even we were tired but he looked fresh. We will always miss Vijay. A good composer and a nice human being.
