i have been reading the sacred texts (king arthur legends and mythos compilation book) and ruminating.. all arthur stories do their own thing im was mostly just yoinking the idea of guy becomes boy king of a bunch of knights (freed slave becomes mand'alor) and seeing where it took me. but the idea of MORDRED has me intruiged. who would be his betrayer??
i want to say that the idea artus taking fatal wounds and getting stuck in a force nexus is a pretty 1-1 comparison for arthur dying and being whisked away to avalon except artus actually comes back. arthur is supposed to in the myths technically so it works out.
but who PUT him there? a BETRAYER. i really love that idea of another mandalorian, one who artus trusted, stabbing him in the back and leaving him to die. he fully expected to die, too. he didn't know he was going to get stuck in a force nexus. waking up is a shock and so he does consider himself part of the ka'ra (council of dead kings) because. WELL. WHAT ELSE WOULD HE BE? A GUY WHO ACCEPTED HIS DEATH AND CAME BACK DESPITE IT.
also playing with the idea of the sword in the stone re: artus freeing himself... the mask of the mand'alor was taken by REVAN, so that's out of play currently (BUT, IMPORTANTLY! NOT WHEN ARTUS WAS MAND'ALOR! SO HE PROBABLY DID HAVE IT FOR A TIME -- but its not a WEAPON which is more what I'm looking for), and the darksaber doesn't exist for a cool couple thousand years, so...
honestly i think the solution is he kills someone with the mask of the mand'alor and frees himself in what would surely be an insane hutt vs. mandalorian confrontation. they manage to kill the mand'alor only for some random SLAVE to grab his mask and beat the nearest hutt-aligned person to death with it.
THE ORIGIN I WAS PLAYING WITH WAS DIFFERENT. a mand'alor endorsing slavery and getting killed for it. but honestly using a hutt conflcit to free himself, grabbing the first thing he can and then finding out that he's suddenly king now because he avenged the last one on accident via beating people to death with a beskar mask? even funnier to me as there is zero premeditation. welcome to mandalor this is your house now. lmao. there HAVE been leaders who are NOT mandalorian before... artus just wins points because he takes to it immediately. yes he would LOVE to be mandalorian. you KNOW the mandos wanted to adopt him after this stunt so bad anyways.
this would become an interesting power struggle between the clans too... any clan can become the mand'alor's clan if they can get the boy kings favor... that's a fascinating outlook as well.
Artus probably wore it around his waist instead of as a mask when he became the king, because he has his own helmet....
