Over this past weekend a coworker had introduced me to this app where people make short second videos of audio clips and recreate that scene or add their own take on things. Some of these videos are very clever and will make you laugh and then there are some that just make my skin crawl.

I was sitting at work on my brake where this younger girl had made a video of her and a friend dancing. The lyrics were repulsive and not something I would want my child to listen to, however she made the video and posted it for all to see.

Down in the comment section was where I felt totally pained for this girl. Girls were calling her fat and ugly making fun of her appearance and just downgrading the girl who was just trying to enjoy herself. The young men on the comments were comparing this girl to bigger animals and also saying other hateful things to her.

By no means am I saying it’s okay to live an unhealthy lifestyle. I’m saying this because I myself am in the bigger category and have recently realized how short life is and how I need to take all appropriate steps into ensuring I’m taking care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally, and many other ways.

My heart broke for that girl. Her confidence because of that video was stripped away from her. If it was a girl who was half her size doing the same thing, she would’ve been applauded. We have no right to take someone else’s confidence. We have no right to compare them to heavier animals. She wanted to enjoy herself and show the world she was confident, when not one comment made was positive.

Also in this website I came across this beautiful individual who was wheelchair bound and was unable to move her mouth. All of her comments were mocking her disability, and asking in a rude way what’s wrong with her.

There are videos of young girls not even probably fourteen years old pulling their hair back and getting down on their knees, implying something vulgar when really it’s because they need to “tie” shoes. Older men are getting in and commenting sexual profanities and this is allowed to happen. In society this is okay.

Parents are allowing their children to use social media platforms, and not monitor what their child is posting and what is being said on their post. They are left wondering why their child has committed suicide when all they needed to do was check the child’s phone and social media platforms. We are allowing our children to make fun of those with special needs, as if they need to be picked on.

It’s okay for our young daughter to play with make up and allow them to take pictures with their breasts out and parents not say anything. It’s okay for sixteen year old boys to make sexual comments towards a ten year old. Where have the values and morals gone?
