ATLA + LoK Continuity: The Fire Sages
The Fire Sages are described as the group in the Fire Nation whos job is to identify the Avatar when he/she is reincarnated into the Fire Nation. The Fire Sages feature in both ATLA and LoK to serve a similar purpose, help the Avatar.
In the 100 year disappearance of Aang the Fire Sages went on to begin serving Fire Lord Ozai. Shyu, a Fire Sage who still thought it was his and the other Sages duty to help the Avatar, helped the Avatar connect with his past life to better understand the true meaning of being the Avatar.
In LoK the Fire Sages play the same exact purpose but are all willing to help the Avatar, leaving us to assume that after Aang had defeated Ozai he went on to reconnect with the Sages. The Sages allow her to get in touch with her Avatar Spirit (Raava) and again gain a better understanding of the true meaning of what being the Avatar is connecting with past lives.
