“...Welcome back. Please, sit down.”

Like all the times before, the girl was there waiting for him, seated beside the small table with a water dish and a clean cloth. It had almost become a ritual of sorts, since the first time he had returned from an assignment a few years ago, only to meet the skinny, tiny child sitting in his room.

“Rei.”

Oka began, the name only making the expression on Huyr’s features more determined.

“I’d rather just take a bath---”

“Later. Sit down.”

When and how had this crybaby grown into such an impudent little woman? In any case, it was futile for the Raen to protest, his much taller, looming form slowly making its way past the doorway and next to the youth. He barely had time to sit before his hand was yanked forwards, Rei’s eyes appraising the caked on dirt and blood left on his hands and face.

“You’re filthy.”

It was more of a statement, rather than a reprimand, the girl’s voice filled with disappointment.

“...Was it hard?”

There was no reply, besides a slow, solemn dip of the young man’s head.

“Are you tired?”
