This is an au universe where Makorra never happened, but Mako and Asami still broke up, so, Mako is at the festival and Korra is there, clearly trying to talk to him, and he feels weird about the implications of that and his friendship with Asami so he ducks away from her and grabs the arm of the first girl he sees.

Eska: You are holding my arm.

Mako, having no idea how significant this moment is: Yes. Want to... play a game?

An identical twin Mako hadn’t seen before popping into view behind the girl who’s arm he’s holding’s shoulder: This man. He is flirting with you.

Eska, thoughtfully: Hm. That is acceptable.

Mako, dragging her toward the nearest booth: Sure. Me too.

Eska, after Mako wins her a duck she immediately passes to Desna: You are very handsome in the face.

Mako, blushing: Uh, you are too.

Eska: Yes. I am. You are very observant. I find you pleasing, you belong to me now.

Mako, who doesnt know she’s Korra’s cousin: Ah- oh. That actually works.

Eska: Like a servant.

Mako, correcting her: Boyfriend.

Eska, observing him carefully: Very well.

Mako, realizing he make a grave error but is already in too deep: *indecisive fear freezing him in place*

Eska: Korra, this is my new boyfriend. Mako.

The number one idea on the brain is the dragon Zuko one, which is a retelling of the show from Zuko’s perspective literally starting at his earliest memories, as he grows up kind of feral and able to shift from one to the other. Through a series of events, he and Iroh end up escaping to an island as far outside of the Fire Nation control as they can (with a sea monster to discourage travel) that just so happens to be Kyoshi Island.

Feral, dragon Zuko, Suki in a starring role, foaming-at-the-mouth guy, I have lots of ideas for this one; and how I would work with a canon divergence that would start changing things from literally episode one. The fic though, it’s not a complete retelling of the show, it would be very focused on and around Kyoshi Island.

Oh gosh yeah, there was big controversy about racist portrayals in the show which... like yeah, definitely. They purposefully make shows of literature classics and even other movies (some of the very first episodes were Grapes of Wrath and Giligan’s Island), using parody law so that parents can show their kids This Thing instead and keep the indoctrination going strong. Everyone involved from the beginning was very clear about using this show as a Christian alternative to modern, far too secular television like PBS (PBS in the 1990’s mind you, the original showrunners on the record lost their minds about PBS lately), the show has depicted a missionary going up to ‘helpless native people’ who are ‘so dumb they worship a stick’, did a rewrite of the David and Bathsheeba story turning her into a rubber duck and pretending murder didnt happen (my uncle wrote that one), plus The Aisle of Perpetual Tickling just... say they died and went to hell for fucks sake; and it has, since the beginning, had a merch partnership with Focus on the Family which is a documented alt-right evangelical Christian hate group, that supports other hate groups. Behind the Bastards recently did an episode on them if you want to know more about why they are evil. Focus on the Family is one of the organizations that Chik-Fil-A was lambasted for supporting awhile back.
