#ragtime blues

Ragtime/Piedmont blues is such a crazy fun style to play on guitar. It takes some practice and focus to get, but the learning curve isn't too steep, so it's learnable for any guitarist but also makes you feel really good about your playing and progress. You can make it as simple or complex as you want, so it's harder to get bored. It gives you a framework to improvise flourishes and fills that's very forgiving. It's versatile too. You can play a soft lullaby, a driving pulse, a heavy shuffle, or a punchy, percussive dance beat. It's also a whole band in one guitar; you can sound good and complete on your own without playing along with anyone or anything.
