im a big fan of trigger too, kill la kill is my literally favourite anime of all time, and lwa and luluco are high favs too, but franxx just doesnt do it for me. its got the LOOK of a trigger anime, but with none of the heart and soul, none of the charm and personality. from what i understand, its more of an A-1 production with trigger just providing action direction (imaishi), art, and only animating SOME of the episodes, so im guessing thats a big part of why.
Yeah it is mainly an A-1 anime with Trigger mostly only handling action. The thing is though itās not as easy as just blaming A-1 and calling it a day, because the director of the show who works at A-1, is Atsushi Nishigori used to be an important staff member at Gainax. He was the character designer for Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking. So while A-1 is definitely the problem with the show, the A-1 side of it is still part of the Gainax legacy. The only other thing Nishigori has directed is IdolM@ster, which I havenāt seen, but judging just by DitF Iām not a big fan of his directing. Heās one of my favorite character designers though. If he had just handled the character designs instead (not that the character designs in the show are bad, I just think theyāre a little bland for a mecha anime) and someone else had directed, who knows, we might have had a great show.
But yeah I agree, I donāt think it has the charm of a Trigger show, and I donāt think it has the look of one either outside of the action scenes. As much as I love Trigger I wouldnāt blame anyone for dropping it. Iām just really stubborn about watching everything Trigger works on. And for that matter I also want to eventually watch Gainaxās entire library of work too but thatās a much bigger library so thatāll take longer.
Also Kill la Kill and Luluco are some of my favs too and Little Witch Academia is also awesome. My All time fav is Gurren Lagann but Kill la Kill comes real close. In fact Kill la Kill was the most fun time Iāve ever had watching an anime because it was the first time I watched an anime weekly and I got to watch along with my friends and it was amazing. I really miss watching it as it aired. God I love Trigger.

place further than the universe was truly incredible, it feels like an instant classic that ppl will remember for years to come. so glad i decided to watch it, it surprised me so much!! really really good. meanwhile i dropped darling in the franxx after ep 6 and honestly have no desire to go back, which is sad but also... shrugs i guess :\
I checked out A Place Further than the Universe because I had heard great things about it but I never expected to like it as much as I did. It really blew me away. I havenāt cried that much at an anime in a while. It was definitely anime of the season and itās certainly gonna be in the running for anime of the year. I really wanna check out other anime by the director and writer now because they did an amazing job with it.
And yeah I donāt blame you for dropping DitF. Iām sticking with it because Iām deeply invested in Trigger and want to watch everything they make. Even when I donāt particularly like something they make, I still watch anyway because itās my favorite studio and I want to have comprehensive knowledge of their whole library of work. I donāt hate it though, itās competent, but itās definitely not anything that special. Itās got really nice mecha designs and good action animation but thatās all it really has to write home about.
Oh well, we still have Promare and Gridman to look forward to! Imaishi and Nakashima anime are always amazing and Iām pumped to see Amemiya direct a non-meme anime too (although the pv didnāt really show anything that cool yet unfortunately.)
"#why are her legs both on the same side if theyre both on the pedals" IKR IVE SEEN THIS PIC SEVERAL TIMES TODAY AND THATS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY ALL DAY its all i can think abt every time i see it ahhh
Hahaha glad Iām not the only one that noticed then. Animation mistakes like that happen all the time, especially in tv animation, so I kinda like to think of them as funny little easter eggs. They donāt really bother me unless theyāre really obvious and happen all the time *cough cough Powerpuff Girls reboot cough* I just noticed an animation mistake I made in my senior film a couple days ago though and THAT drives me nuts. Like shit, this has been online for months, thereās nothing I can do about it at this point. (I did fix it for my demo reel though)

gunbuster
Gunbuster is one of my all time favorites. I actually consider its finale to be the best anime ending of all time. It makes me cry every time I even think about it for too long. And the scene where Noriko tears her top off and then it cuts to show the Gunbuster ripping its chest open is the rawest thing Iāve ever seen in an anime.Ā Absolutely iconic.
