So, I originally planned to have Pokemon 30th anniversary art ready for tomorrow (featuring my 30 favorite Pokemon), but that's just not happening. I've had the idea bouncing around in my head since before the 29th anniversary last year, and I still procrastinated until earlier this week to even narrow down my choices, much less start drawing. I'm about halfway done with the anniversary art but I'm tired, and I don't think I'm finishing it by tomorrow. Sorry. It'll get done, but not on the anniversary date. ^^;
In its place, have this little sidestep. Some of you who've followed me for a long time may remember me having big aspirations to do a Pokemon Moon Nuzlocke comic, called Moonlight Wanderers (coming Spring 2018). It never happened, and if I'm being honest with myself, I don't think it ever will. It's okay. I've made my peace with it.
But rather than dropping it completely and never thinking about it again, I made reference to it in Rain, with Chanel as a webcomic artist in the end. And at least in the blurbs, it was called "Sunlight Drifters" (it's admittedly never mentioned directly in-comic). In the bonus chapter of the upcoming final book, we see this cover too, featuring MW's protagonist, Maya, repurposed to a daytime setting. And she's joined by two "legally unique" Fakemon I made up just for this cover, Racool and Faecorn. This will probably never be expounded upon much more than this, but I'm glad I could finally do something with Maya (and I'm quite fond of the friends I gave her).
It's, again, perhaps a few steps removed from really celebrating Pokemon, but I did want to share this publicly anyway. And if it weren't for Pokemon, we wouldn't have not had Moonlight Wanderers. XD
Thus we wouldn't have Sunlight Drifters either. Maybe not even Rain or MIS. Even if the connecting thread seems odd, Pokemon is a huge inspiration for me, so it's hard to say for sure, but it's technically possible.
All this to say: Happy 30th Pokemon Day! Stay tuned for actual 30th anniversary Pokemon art, and of course, Rain Volume 7. Soon!
