For decades, Racks has been the favorite restaurant of many Filipinos craving for their flame-grilled Falls Off The Bone Ribs. While the restaurant remains to be as popular as it was when it first started, it takes something new to lure in the younger millennial crowd. So Racks has come up with a new concept, by introducing its hip and cooler younger brother. Let’s all welcome the new kid on the block - Rackshack!
Rackshack held its media launch last October 24, 2017 at the fifth floor of the SM Aura Premier Sky Park. This new barbecue playground serves ridiculously good ribs, chicken, sausages, and more in a very casual and relaxed dining environment. It’s definitely Barbecue with no Boundaries as it offers all of these delicious items paired with their five signature sauces that you can mix and match whichever way you want.
The main attraction inside Rackshack is the grill where you can see their #FiredUpBBQ being prepared for everyone to see. The fast-casual dining restaurant is bright and spacious, with lots of room to roam around. It’s a great place to hang out after work or to meet up with friends.
There are plenty of colorful and Instagram-worthy corners around the restaurant, just how millennials like it. Aside from the indoor space, they also have an al fresco dining area which offers even more things to do than just eating.
There are several activities which diners can do outside including board games, foozball, darts, and even lawn beer pong. The bar is also situated here so there’s a more interesting social and interactive experience.
Diners can start their barbecue adventure with some appetizers like the Skinny Fries (P95), Rachshack’s thinly cut and slender potato fries which are crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. Pair it with a glass of refreshing Lemonade (P65), iced tea or soda.
Local and imported beers are also available like Corona (P175), Stella Artois (P165), and local craft beers from Engkanto Brewery including their Lager (P100) or Double IPA (P120).
For bigger groups, go for the Ridiculous Nachos (P365) which is practically a meal on its own. These crunchy nachos are ridiculously loaded with pulled pork, hot link sausage, olives, onion strings, jalapeños, salsa, real cheddar and melted nacho cheese. Turn your fries into Ridiculous Fries for the same price.
If it’s a healthier option you prefer, then the Street Corn Salad (P195) should be your order. This Mexican style corn salad is slathered in butter, mayonnaise, and spices then served with tortilla crisps.
But the best feature of Rackshack is, of course, their barbecues. Choose from a variety of Mains which are all served with a choice of garlic or steamed rice. You can’t go wrong with the classic and best-selling Pork Rib (P275). This is Racks and Rackshack’s signature slow-cooked pork ribs which are just so tender, smoky and flavorful.
The big difference with dining at Rackshack is that they have five different ways to fire up your ribs experience with Rackshack’s signature sauces. The Mother Sauce is Racks and Rackshack’s signature house blend barbecue sauce which we all love. It’s mild, sweet and ridiculously good.
But aside from that, they have four other sauces to spice up your barbecue. Take a look at the Spice Richter Scale if you want to know how much heat to expect with each signature sauce. The Hoisin sauce is a sweet Asian sauce with just a little spicy kick. Carolina Gold has a bit of a mustard flavor with its sweet and tangy blend. Kansas Style is more for barbecue lovers, offering a sticky and spicy flavor. But if you like the spicy hot barbecue sauce at Racks, then go for the Spicy Mother Sauce which will surely light your tongues on fire.
What’s better than one savoury pork rib? It’s TWO! Go for the Pork Rib Double (P515) if you are feeling more than just hungry. The sauce bottles are placed on each table so you can have unlimited servings of their signature sauces to go with your double ribs.
Another meaty option is the Pulled Pork (P225) with its slow cooked, shredded pulled pork soaked in barbecue sauce. This Texas-style pork is cooked for hours in low heat, making it extremely tender that you can pull it off with just your hands or a fork.
Mix up your mains with a few side dishes like the Shack Slaw (P65), Shack Beans (P65), and Harajuku Potato Salad (P65). There are so many possible combinations for your barbecue, side dishes, and sauces so it is definitely barbecue without boundaries at Rackshack.
There are still more meaty options to choose from including the Texas Hot Link (P185), an American-style peppery sausage filled with spices. It’s not really that spicy, but has more of a savoury pepper flavor.
Filipinos do love fried chicken so Rackshack also has the Crack Fried Chicken (P615-whole). This is a 24-hour brined crispy fried chicken that is absolutely crunchy and delicious. It is also available in a 2-piece (P195) or Half (P345) servings. Shareable Platters are also available which offer a combination of ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken or hot link with rice for the barkadas.
Rackshack also offers something for the seafood lovers with their Creole Garlic Shrimp (P395), juicy shrimps in a hot blend of herbs and spices. This one is a bit spicy, so you will definitely need some rice or drinks to go with these babies. To end your exciting adventure, go for the Brownie Smores (P195) which comes with soft marshmallows doused with gooey chocolate syrup on top of a brownie.
Rackshack is a cool alternative for barbecue lovers looking for a more exciting and colorful dining environment. It also comes with cheaper price points compared to it’s older brother Racks, so that’s another reason for the younger generation to have more fun. They have another branch already open at Circuit Makati and will soon be expanding to more places in Metro Manila, so get ready to fire up the barbecue at Rackshack!
