Christmas gift for the niece. A re-purposed wine cabinet's racks.
After Iād re-purposed the Wine Cabinet, previous project, I had 5 sets of racks sitting on my shelf. Thinking I could maybe use them one day I left them with the other āI might need thisā odds and ends of woodworking scrap.
So, my wife commissions me, for Christmas and sans pay, to design a wine āthingyā for our youngest niece and her boyfriend. Gee! I could make a little counter top rack or a small cabinet. The small rack would get lost and not used. A small cabinet would take too long. Soā¦.. Make a small side table with a set of racks and I just happen to have some ready made pieces.
It so happened that Woodcraft had a couple of pallets of ānot the bestā cherry selling for $ 4/bf. I picked through and found enough good quality for less than $ 30. Hey, so far this isnāt going to put a dent in the wood fund account.
Milled it out on a Friday, made tenons and mortises on Saturday, sanded and made the shelves on Monday, assembled on Wednesday, oiled on Thursday, varnished on Friday and Saturday, give it to them on a Sunday.
Oh and added a few turquoise gems to make it interesting.
Overall this was a fun and quick project of course without monetary reward. The niece really loved it.
