TLDR

completely okay: drawing any and all body types, including in a sexual manner, including only in a sexual manner if thats the kind of art you wanna make. whether you like it or not sexuality is always morally neutral no matter what demographic its aimed at and to think otherwise would fall into christian puritanism ideals.

not okay: claiming youre the peak of representation when you only ever depict these bodies in a sexual context, only ever talking about their culture, or bodies, or disabilities, or oppression status theyd have in our world, and never giving them any personality or engage with them past that, especially if the kinds of people youre depicting has huge gaps in them (cough physically masculine trans people and any disabilities besides vague cane users cough).

what makes fetishisation and sexualisation different from just liking sexual things or having fetishes is the dehumanization that comes from it. by definition sexualization and fetishization is the depiction of people or characters in a way that takes away their personhood and reduces them to sex objects.

none of salem's characters feel like *people* because he never elaborates on them past "oh theyre disabled. oh theyre poly. oh theyre a trans girl". they're not characters, theyre sex objects he INSISTS is accurate depictions of these people in real life when he never goes outside or can elaborate on them past "uhh queer, disabled, fat, POC"

yes I like seeing my body types or other aspects in characters but its impossible to relate to Salem's on a genuine level when they dont have any personality past their body and in turn it feels like brownie points and makes me feel reduced to those aspects in a sexual manner.

not to mention the "vast representation" never extends to characters with disabilities besides vague "cane users", to ANY physically masculine characters (hitomi doesnt count shes just slim with a flat chest n thick eyebrows), especially fat people or trans men, any top surgery, binders, trans tape, the transfem characters dont even tuck. any genuine, realistic buff/strong characters. which again would be fine because salem prefers drawing chubby feminine characters but he cant claim himself to be the pinnacle of representation when he just draws fat feminine people mostly for sexual interest.

"it was a delusion" double bookkeeping is the first thing I was taught while recovering from psychotic disorders. the understanding that we live between 2 worlds of delusion and fact, the others dont see or believe what we believe and therefore its misinformation at best and straight up physically dangerous at worst if you pretend your delusional reality is fact. by any measure. if youre experiencing dangerous or bigoted delusions its your company's responsibility to reality check OR AT LEAST REDIRECT you. if your friends arent doing that theyre condoning harmful behavior and literally abusing your mentally ill ass.
