White Rabbit Out of a Hat
Felix entertained himself by shuffling up the cards, his hands and eyes moving quickly, giving cards a random spin as he juggled them about. It was a hypnotic movement, allowing himself to sink into himself, his head going quiet as he focused on the familiar movement of shuffling. It was a trick his grandfather taught him. A means to help Felix calm down when he got upset or twitchy. It was calming busy work. Allowed him to focus but relax. In his more focused episodes, Felix got elaborate and playful, testing all the tricks he could to spice it up, challenge his meditative state.
It didn't always work out for him to do so. Like now, with one card going flying and landing into his top hat. Felix blinked, concentration broken by the sudden escape. Absently, he reached into his to grab it.
Felix paused, sitting up and now fully focused on the hat.
There was something soft and warm in his hat. And there were... some kind of extensions? What was in his hat?
Grasping it, Felix brought out a white rabbit like being with big blue eyes, a warm goofy smile, and a weird body shape for a rabbit. Felix was thinking it was some kind of plush when the being moved and let out a playful, "Tada!"
The rabbit thing stared back.
After half a minute, it spoke. "Ok. This was funnier in my head. I thought that me being a white rabbit and you a magician, well it'd be funny for you to pull me out of a hat! Haha, but uh, apparently not. But you know, fair. Most people don't anticipate a kwami--"
As the being startled to ramble, Felix slowly started to put her back in the hat.
The being noticed. "Oh! Going back in I see. Ok. Fine. That's fine. I'll be in here when you're ready!"
Felix quickly brought his hand back out and drew away from the hat. It sat quietly, not moving. After a minute, Felix came near, tilting the hat down.
The rabbit being beamed up at him. "Hey, you ready now?"
"What are you?" Felix asked incredulously.
Felix scrambled away as the rabbit floated up, moving slow and carefully, conscious to not startle him anymore than he already is. "I'm here because a friend is in trouble. You have promise for my power so I came to you."
Felix stared, repeating softly, "Power?"
"Yes! I am of the few kwamis of magic! There have actually been a few arguments amongst humans of what I represent, I think most popular was theurgy but I don't know. But let's go with me representing all of white magic!"
"Yes! All things positive, light, creative, and good. The healer and the supporter."
"I think you chose wrong," Felix stated.
"Agree to disagree," Luuna said. "There is darkness in you, I can acknowledge. You are very selfish--"
Felix gave the being a raised brow for her bluntness.
"-- but there is a light in you. A warmth." Luuna gave him a kind smile. "You have much love for your family. And the misuse of my friend will put your family at risk."
Felix frowned at that, feeling uncertain. He asked, "Where is your friend?"
"...Paris. Paris, France?"
Felix gave Luuna an unimpressed look. "You do realize you're in London, right?"
"Oh, I know," Luuna reassured. "If I knew that you weren't coming here at all, I wouldn't have approached you."
Felix raised a brow. "You think I'm heading to Paris?"
"I am pretty certain you are in the near future. Soon. Not sure when, but I know it's soon. Divination isn't exactly my strength. That's more Duusu--"
"How could you know?" Felix demanded.
"I am of white magic," Luuna answered simply. "I go with the flow instead of challenging fate. I am more welcomed by the universe and that allows me to tweak things to my advantage or desire. I may not have true clairvoyance, but I am connected to the world enough to get a sense for these things."
Felix’s door started to open and Luuna dove out of sight, heading back inside the hat, she paused to make a shushing motion to him before going down. His mother leaned in, offering him a careful smile. "Hey, my little magician," she greeted gently.
"Mum look at that this," Felix revealed quickly, reaching into his hat and bringing Luuna out. Only the kwi was as limp as a toy, smiling brightly, amusement clear in her eyes.
His mother laughed. "White rabbit out of the hat, that's cute." She drew near, giving Luuna's head an affectionate stroke. "It is a very cute toy. Where did you get it?"
"I have no idea," Felix answered dryly, dropping Luuna back in the hat.
Clearing her throat, his mother sat on his bed, looking tired and apologetic. "So," she started gently, "your father and I were talking..." Felix gave her a wary stare. "We thought it might be best to stay with your Uncle for a while."
"What?" he uttered, surprised. He spared the hat a fast glance.
"Your cousin is lonely and can really use some family right now. And we all know your Uncle isn’t exactly the family you want around at this time. And you've been rather lonely here. Maybe Paris could be a good fresh start for you. Make some friends."
"You make it sound like we're not going to be stuck in that mansion."
"Oh no," his mother reassured with a chuckle. "If Gabriel did, you let me know right away. But, we talked, and he mentioned he'd be ok with Adrien going to school if you went with him."
"What if I didn't want to go?" Felix asked, crossing his arms.
"Oh sweetie," she murmured, reaching for him. "I'm afraid it's not up for debate. Arrangements are already being made."
"A little bit before school starts. Give you time to settle in."
“Ok,” he murmured, “I understand.”Â
She leaned over, pressing a kiss to his brow. “I love you, my little magician.”Â
As soon as he was left alone, he reached back into the hat and pulled Luuna back out. She was ready with another, “Tadaaa!”
Felix gave her a flat stare, looking wary. “You were actually right.”Â
“I usually am,” she chirped, wiggling herself free from his fingers and zipping around to face him properly. “So, what do you say, young apprentice?”
“Apprentice?” he repeated with a slight scoff.Â
Her smile grew, gentle and teasing. “I am the senior here. But in all seriousness, are you willing to help me save Nooroo, and secure the safety of your family?”Â
The confirmation was on the tip of his lips, but Felix withheld. He wanted more information first of what she can do, what he had available. “What powers do you have?”Â
“”Oh I suppose I could share some. White Magic, on the nose, I know, but its my greatest power, having three offered uses. There is mass healing and revival of life. Material restoration for anything lost or broken. Enhancement of your choosing for your allies, from enhanced strength, a new power to use, invulnerability; you have a lot of options on how to boost your allies. Your limit though is that in a span of five minutes, you can only do these things one at a time. Make sure you know what you want to use.Â
“There is teleportation with Burrow. Dreamwalking with Rabbit Hole. Lucky Feat offers a blessing of luck onto you or someone of your choosing.”Â
Curiously, she trailed off, looking like she was considering something before thinking better of it, offering Felix a bright smile. “That’s what I offer you in terms of magic.”
“That’s it? I won’t be limited with those?”Â
“Maybe a little, but you won’t be doing this alone,” she reassured. “My counterpart Plagg has chosen his own apprentice. She will assist you in these fights. Probably taking up the heat of things, so be ready to help her however you can.”Â
Landing onto Felix’s desk, she drew out a circle with a star inside. It glowed a light blue and a pocket watch with a moon on it appeared. “Take this watch if you accept,” Luuna said, backing away a little to peer up at Felix.Â
After a moment of eyeing it, Felix took it, feeling something warm and comforting rush over him. His silver eyes met Luuna’s blue, and she offered him a big toothy smile.Â
“I’m looking forward to working with you!”Â
