Broken Hart
The market is normally crowded at this time of day, but it suddenly went silent and the pedestrians part. Kell is half way down checking out some produce when she notices the silence and being jostled aside. She looks to what has caused the silent commotion, but she sees nothing…at first. Someone gasps, another mutters out a prayer and then she sees it. A hart might look like any other hart on any given day, but there is something about this hart that is different. Most people just get of the way of a large animal with wide horns. But the ones stopping and gawking know exactly who this particular hart is. There might be blood on the animal’s normally groomed hide, but that’s not what identifies her. There is no saddle to identify her either, but there are mars to her pelt where the saddle has been viciously stripped from her and even hurt her a little. Her bridle has also been aggressively cut away. The poor thing is bleeding from her mouth along with limping from a gash in her thigh. It’s what is used to bind the wound on her neck that makes Kell bring a hand to her lips. The beautiful fabric of the Inquisitor’s favorite scarf. The one that his Kadan gave him, or so it is rumored. The crowd continues to part as the poor animal limps towards her stables. The only way Asaara would come back in such a condition is if something happened to her rider: Kaaras Adaar, leader of the Inquisition. Her returning riderless, is a blow to so many’s hopes. Kell shoves past some others and makes her way to Qwool’s leather stand. He is already stepping out and approaching Asaara. He’s repaired some of her equipment and she is gentle natured so she doesn’t shy away. Kell looks up to Qwool though. “He couldn’t be–” Kell just can’t say it. Qwool gives her shoulder a squeeze, “I’ll take her to the stable, you run up and make sure the others know she has returned. Someone will get the search parties started from there.” Four days go by with no word from the search parties. Although the grooms are taking good care of her, Kell makes sure to check on Asaara everyday. The poor mount is so forlorn without Kaaras. The rest of Skyhold is looking a lot like Asaara. On the sixth day, Kell is bringing Asaara her regular treat when Asaara’ head jerks up and she starts pawing at the stable door. From his seat on a crate mending a stirrup, Qwool perks up. “What is it?!” His first thoughts are invaders or even wolves. Asaara though starts grunting and shoving harder against the door with her horns until the latch finally gives. Kell and Qwool dash for the main door to keep her from escaping when a shadowy figure stops Asaara in her tracks. “Miss me, girl?” A qunari forehead presses to the hart’s and she shoves him right back. Kell wraps her arms around Qwool in happiness. “You had us all worried, Sir.” Kaaras gives a smile but right now he is just enjoying the feel of Asaara alive and safe under his hands. “I didn’t mean to worry any of you, but it looks like she got our message delivered.” He gives her a kiss on her nose. “Thank you, Asaara.” Kell brings her basket of treats over to Kaaras, “These are supposed to be for her, but you can have one too if you would like.” Then she gives his arm a rub, “Thank you for coming back.” Qwool and Kell leave, letting the Inquisitor have time alone with his hart and their treats.
