âââââ  Kaaras wasnât the only one who felt a surge of disappoint when the credits of the movie began to roll. He idly stared at them as his mind spun amidst his own thoughts. Was this to be there last night together? That seemed to have been the initial plan when they had sorted out their journey, butâŚdid they truly have a time limit? He replayed the Glacianâs terms over and over in his head, yet, she had not said anything regarding whether Kaarasâ visit should be contained to one night or even twenty. Not that they would risk such a thing, of course, thoughâŚÂ
âStay,â he said quietly, almost too soft to be heard. âStay here,â he stated again, just a touch louder. His eyes drifted to the hand that rested on his thigh. It would be so much easier for them to merely part way again, come tomorrow, to lessen whatever pain he might feel from the Inquisitorâs departure. He couldnât bare to think about that possibility just yet, however.Â
âJust another night or two.â Finally turning his head, he looked to Kaaras with what was possibly one of the most hopeful expressions he could give. He wouldnât beg; no, he was still too proud a man for that, but this was nearly equivalent to that for Ravus.Â
âPlease. Thedas can wait a while longer. What harm could there be in you remaining here, at least until the weekâs end? Everything will still be as it was when you return.â That was only two day, but still⌠that was two more days that he might be given to be with Kaaras before potentially never being able to see him again.Â
I donât want you to leave, he thought to himself, but he didnât speak it aloud. That degree of vulnerability was something he still couldnât come to terms with. Â
âBesides, we will need to watch the sequels to the movie, now.â Sure, that was fantastic logic.     Â
The words stung like ice to his heart. He wanted to. He wanted to stay so desperately, but he knew the world was against them. Both Thedas and Eos. He did not belong here... Thedas needed him right now, otherwise he may have considered it for a moment. But right now, it just hurt to hear that plea, the way Ravusâ voice sounded so desperate to have him here.Â
Kaaras felt his heart fall down to his bowels, making him feel queasy after the perfect night they had shared. A breath left his lips, his ears twitching back ever so slightly. Just a night or two... Who in Skyhold would miss him? Would they even notice? Of course they would. Kaarasâ presence was all around the fortress, if not for him checking in with his companions and making sure everything was up to par, then it was his presence as Inquisitor.
But if the woman who had gotten him here in the first place could really use time magic, then would they truly notice? Surely not.Â
âI...â He looked at Ravusâ eyes, so gentle. âFor you, I shall. For a little while longer, if I can.â He moved his hand to Ravusâ cheek, letting it linger there for a moment whilst they were so close, but he soon realised that perhaps it was a bold move, and he lowered it.
âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have. Being here is just...â He moved back, placing his hands into his lap as he averted Ravusâ multicoloured eyes. âIâm so overwhelmed, Ravus. I donât know if itâs the excitement of this place, being in an entirely different world, or if itâs being beside you like this, feeling you so close to me. I admit Iâve become so fond of your company, and it feels so cruel to tell you this now, when we have to part ways.â
He bit his tongue, unable to stop the surge of emotions that pooled towards his eyes, glistening them, though holding back any tears that threatened to fall. âIâm so sorry. I shouldnât be doing this to you. Not now. Itâs so selfish of me.âÂ
