What are some of your favorite poems? I love this line so much I had it permanently inked on my body. I have an ever-growing collection of poetry books I read when I hit the final round of edits. Poetry helps me get into an opulent frame of mind, where I can let words be luscious and lyrical. It’s one of my favorite stages (editing > drafting!! 😉 kidding. Sort of). Whenever anyone asks for a piece of publishing advice, I say: perseverance is the only difference between a published author and an unpublished author. I’m reminded of that as I embark on drafting my current secret project. Perseverance comes into play in a lot of this job. Pushing through difficult drafts/edits; pushing through waiting and hoping. The ability to self motivate is hugely beneficial—as is the ability to give yourself a break, and be kind to yourself. You can be both your own cheerleader and your own friend.
