He entered her room, sitting down on the chair closest to her bed so he could be near her, not wanting to make talking to her awkward. He found a comfortable position and turned to speak to her but faltered. She had given him everything when he had nothing. Literally. She had given him a home, food, clothing, and attention. To him, it almost felt like he had a family again, him only having one other person in the house, but once he remembered that fact, he was reminded of the gruesome fact that he no longer has a family.
A silent tear fell down his face, one that he wiped quickly. He smiled before speaking.
“There is reason to thank you. You…. you have given me more than anyone would have dared. You let me sleep in your home, fed me, clothed me, comforted me and showed me the love of someone who cares.”
He said love, though that’s not quite what he meant.
“Errm. I mean. Not love, but umm.”
He waved it away before speaking again.
“But anyway. You have made me feel like I matter when most wouldnt.”
He reached out to take her hand, pressing it to his lips gently.
“I just…. there is no way I can repay your kindness…….”
