“Mate... Have you fuckin’ seen the bloke? 

... Alright, alright, serious answer time, because who doesn’t love all this lovey dovey bullshit, eh? There’s a lot that’s great about Quinn, like how he’s so bloody smart, not just as a soldier, but he’s real educated too, reads more than is fucking healthy. He’s strong, determined, but he’s not your typical alpha male soldier all out to shout the loudest and make sure the world takes notice. Quinn is happy to take a back seat, is comfortable in his own shoes enough to know that he doesn’t need to prove himself. Best of all though? Quinn is the best guy I know when it comes to getting into people’s heads. He cares so damn much and he’s got the way of reading people, of knowing what they need. I don’t know how he does it, but for a lot of the guys and girls in SC, he’s somewhere between a dad and a big brother to them. He fucking loves it too, Quinn was just built to look after people, it’s just who he is. 

As for me? Well fuck... He’s my best mate, has been for years. I came to SC feelin’ like a fish outta water, I didn’t have any belief in myself, in my leadership. I had a lotta anger and a massive chip on my shoulder, but Quinn just saw through me, like he knew I wanted to do the best job I could but at the same time I was shit scared of fucking it all up. Truth is, Quinn was one of the first people to believe in me like that and he’s never stopped since. He was like a brother for a long time, I never thought there’d be anything else between us. 

Sex never used to be something that interested me, y’know? On the estate I grew up on, I threw myself at lads because that’s what everyone else was doing, had a few boyfriends but I never really enjoyed it, like it was something I was doing for them, not myself. Not sayin’ I didn’t want it at the time or I was forced or something, but it was more me trying to fit in than having sex because it felt good, y’know? I didn’t recognise it for a while, I was too fucking young and reckless, but when I joined the army I just kind of forgot about it. My love life wasn’t my priority and to be fair I didn’t exactly miss it either. 

The first time me and Quinn slept together, we were both drunk out of our skulls and grieving, it was never supposed to happen. But I still remember it feeling like the best thing in my life. Fuckin’ scared me too, scared us both. Didn’t take me long to realise that what I’d been missing as a kid had been that... connection with someone else, like for me to enjoy it I’ve gotta trust and love the guy I’m screwing completely. And that guy is Quinn, still is to be fair. He’s the only man who I trust with everything I got and I’m pretty sure he’s my first and only love.
